"It was a dark and stormy night. (KIDDING Wife was getting a bit antsy about my apparently selfish decision to spend Sunday sitting on the porch with a beer and a book. Why don't we drive up to Georgetown and check out antique end-tables she suggested. That's a wonderful idea Hon I lied, finishing my beer and putting down my copy of How to Murder Your Wife while Hiking the Rockies or Cruising the Caribbean So, after what seemed like a day and a half of driving, we arrived in always beautiful Georgetown. Motoring slowly past the fragrant Paper Plant, the ginormous Steel Plant (it's re-opened) and the eye-catching Sewage Treatment Plant, we once again wondered... Who was responsible for the layout of this town? At least it's not Walterboro, SC, another one of those HISTORIC spots that you wish you'd never gotten off the highway to visit, like HISTORIC DENTON MD for those of you from the Eastern Shore. But truth be told, even Greater Charleston is pretty ugly looking in a post-modern/post-industrial sort of way. Anyway, we soon realized, G-TOWN WAS SHUT TIGHTER THAN A DRUM for Memorial Day Weekend. No warning. No signs. No nothing. One of the things you quickly get used to about the Low Country is that many businesses assume you know they'll be closed on a day that they're normally open. We still decided to park and take a walk (to justify the wasted gasoline) feeling like the only couple who didn't get the EVACUATION ORDER as we strolled the desolate streets. Oddly enough, there were handwritten notices posted everywhere mentioning the AUCTION, BY THE BRIDGE My imagination ran amuck considering the possibilities...Used Blast Furnaces?...Giant Reams of Printing Paper?...Unused Garden Club signs? We'll never know... Because we tossed Cujo into the Conestoga Wagon and headed back south to the Holy City. The wife unexpectedly and magnanimously suggested we visit RESTAURANT WORLD (Park Circle) for some BBQ at the ever dependable SRS. ACTUAL REVIEW OF STARTS NOW We scored a nice umbrella shaded table outside, so that we could play our favorite people watching game in N. Charleston SPOT THE NORTHERNER. Our very congenial server, who humorously claimed to not be a people person did a terrific job taking care of us and keeping Cujo hydrated. I was elated to learn that Smithwick's (pronounced Smiddicks for those of you who drink White Claw and admit it) was on the TAP BEER LIST. My favorite Irish Red Ale, basically a carbonated Guinness Brewing piece of Heaven, if you will. Deciding to go with the server's recommendation, I ordered twelve WINGS with SWEET THAI CHILI sauce (superb) and ROOT RUB, a surprising non-starter; it tasted like a slightly tangy Old Bay. Wife ordered the amazing, SMOKEHOUSE MEDLEY SANDWICH (pork, brisket, slaw) so good, we ordered another one! Cujo had whatever I slipped him under the table. We decided to double down on the artery hardening by getting sides of MAC CHEESE and POTATO SALAD. Glad I wore my non-Athletic Cut 501s today! (I don't really own a pair of Athletic Cut anything at my age anymore My painfully long-winded review aside, we really enjoy SRS! Not to mention a menu that can be read WITHOUT MY GLASSES!"

"The brisket was decent, not a lot of smoke, but was moist. Chicken was moist and was also decent too good. Chopped meat had too much sauce for me. The corn was smooth and straight out of the can. Cole Slav was decent. Much better barbecues in town."
