"I 'd been looking forward to visiting Lentil as Anything in St Kilda for my birthday after having a lovely experience at one in Sydney. We showed up and sat at one of the outside tables, only to find that there was a group a few feet away smoking, and this was all blowing on to us (including our children . We waited until a table inside was free and asked to move. The waitress looked horrified at this request, even though I explained that I have severe asthma and was suffering from the smoke, she rolled her eyes and was hesitant to let us move. To avoid this, don 't sit outside (and don 't ask you waitress for anything? . Next, they served the chai but didn 't bring me one. I was hesitant to ask the waitress for one while she was clearly upset at us moving tables and figured I 'd ask later when we had dessert rather than put more pressure on her. They served the meals and my burger was revolting. Plain slice of cold/cool tofu chucked between two pieces of Turkish break and drowned in sweet chilli sauce. My children 's meals looked good but mine was disgusting. We 'd finished our meals and were waiting on what was supposed to be the highlight of the night, dessert, when a large smelly lady pushed up behind me and demanded to sit at our table. I said no (keep in mind I have children at the table and gestured further in the restaurant where there were spare tables. The lady pushed past me and sat down opposite my daughter on the spare chair. She then proceeded to push my daughters empty plate back at her (remember, we were waiting for it to be cleared and dessert to served and push all the water cups and containers at my children (this was only a small table! . My children looked scared and I looked towards the two waitresses less than two metres away for help they were standing there laughing at us. I honestly didn 't know what to do with the smelly pushy lady now taking up our entire table and my two scared children. This was my birthday treat yet we clearly couldn 't enjoy anything at this point. I stood up to ask the waitress if she could possibly reseat the lady, but she turned away before I could ask. Meantime, the lady was inviting her friend to take the seat I 'd been sitting on. I grabbed some money out for the meal payment and with my children scrambling to get away, we left. Lentil as Anything: If you read this, I want you to know how awkward that situation was for myself, a single parent, and for my young children. It could have been solved by your people simply stepping up, but instead we were forced to leave still hungry, scared/confused, and vastly disappointed. Thanks for the birthday memories, I guess."

"My boys wanted to take me out for dinner for Mother’s Day and we were so very happy to learn that sittings here would be a la carte/ no set menu or minimum spend like many restaurants impose. We queued for our 5.45pm sitting later learned they’d had 3 lunch sittings that day wow the staff would have been so very busy). My boys are familiar with the menu so we ordered fairly quickly drinks our stream of delicious dumplings arrived within minutes! There was about 10 minutes in between that and mains. Service was great. Extra requests for drinks etc were handled efficiently, food was so very delicious; each of the mums received a wrapped carnation for Mother’s Day. I can’t speak highly enough of our dinner here our first time for us all as all previous visits have been at Hu Tong in the city, where we love the feel, the lane ways sense of history. This was Hu Tong in a different bustling vibrant location. We loved it. Thank you Hu Tong. Special mention too to all your floor staff who did an amazing job of looking after us all."

"We arrived at the restaurant at 2:45pm, immediately seated and ordered 1 matcha pancake plus 1 green burget. The place was quite full and we have been patiently waiting the food for around 45mins. Good food worths the wait. No luck. But then later we saw some of our neighbours who arrived way later than us were starting to get food. It was still fine to us as different dishes might take different time to cook. But then another 10mins passed by, we saw that the staff were packing up and were ready to close. We grabbed one of the waitresses and asked if she could check the order for us. After a moment, she came back and said they have somehow lost our orders but then the kitchen is NOW CLOSED so she couldn't do anything for us. That's really crazy. How could they miss the order without checking upon us after sitting there for like 45mins? Even more disappointing, we overheard that they have also missed another order but they did make a new one for them. But apparently not us. I was so angry and apparently we were the only Asian customers there. I am not sure if this is due to poor service, ignorance or racism. The waitress did offer us a free drink after I made a scene but it's too late."

"Excellent value authentic Vietnamese cuisine in Hawthorn. Recommended are the fried chicken ribs, calamari, vegetable and tofu hot pot, beef and broccoli rice noodles, fried rice, special spring rolls and dry fried beef noodles. 3 colors drinks consistently sweet way to end the meal. Service is prompt. Never disappoints owner Pham is always friendly. Lunch menu represents good value."
