"This cafe is located in a lovely, bright building on the corner of West Broadway and Vine. It is popular with locals who sit on a coffee or other drink and use the free Wifi (Apple devices seem to dominate). Family and friends come here often. (I prefer the little illy cafe on the other side of Vine, 50 metres from Broadway). The cabinet food at Higher Grounds looks very average; the coffee is. Service is, on average, ok, although some staff are very pleasant and engaging. Overall, it is the very nice premises and the wifi that pulls one back."

"We went there for the Griffin's Gambit high tea. The room was gorgeously decorated. And the pastries and tea sandwiches were creative and delicious. Some of the best scones I've ever had! The best part of the experience was our server, Marilou. She was extra attentive, offering to swap tea for my friend whose tea was a bit overwhelming at first. Marilou also refilled our tea pots frequently and gave really detailed descriptions of our pastries. She also gave us extra little raspberry jam to take home. Thank you Marilou for taking care of us! Amazing experience! Definitely would go again for their other themes."

"After an enjoyable ride through Stanley Park we stopped into a new place (for us) on Denman Street.Cacao 70 is mainly a place for sweets - heavy chocolate influence - which started in Montreal some years back, worked their way across major Canadian cities and has been in Vancouver for about a year.Two of us enjoyed their savoury waffle - smoked ham, eggs sunny side up, mushrooms, white cheddar, bechamel and topped with maple syrup. I would likely hold on the syrup next time, but that's just a matter of taste - really good flavour, cooked just right. For dessert we split a Volcano - you can check out all ingredients online but warm brownie, whipped cream, strawberries, and caramel will give you some idea.Friendly, attentive, informative server, and a nicely presented store made this a great way to finish off a bike ride."
