"Located upstairs between the 7Eleven and another all time favourite of mine, Tokui Sushi in Lonsdale Street near the corner of Swanston Street. This place is a hidden gem. I went here for the lunch special. This place is superb. Each table has a built in BBQ unit with exaust fans above each table. The decor is modern with private cubicles or a variety of table sizes to suit diners. The host was very welcoming. I chose Beef Bulgogi. It came on a very large korean style plate with steamed rice with hanakatsuo topping, a green leaf salad with black sesame dressing, kimchi and the beef bulgogi. The bulgogi was tasty and tender. I loved every part of this meal. I look forward to trying all the lunch specials which vary in cost between $9.50 $13.00."

"Beef Bulgogi in his finest Mayo salad (prawns that were so good we had to have another order of them) many Korean favorites with a modern twist and some unusual dishes all so wonderfully fresh together with a selection of Japanese Bento boxes. Delicious. Even the creepy big daughters thought that. Very reasonable prices. Very recommended local,"

"We cycled here and just approaching the door, Jacob comes out to greet us.He instructed us to park our bicycles near the gate and he was hilarious when asked credit cards are accepted. He said yes, they take them as well as the bikes :)There's seating in the front veranda, seating inside as well as seating in a courtyard which is a garage. Cozy inside. Building is kinda raw - in a good way. It says La Cafe on the signage outside.Hankook is a Korean name and looking at the menu, it looks like there's Korean, Japanese, Spanish as well as Arabic type food. The male and female in the kitchen were Asians - Koreans I am thinking. Pretty certain lovely hilarious and friendly Jacob is Korean himself.The shakouska was amazing! $16 with a side sambal and lovely fluffy warm pitta bread on the side. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection. The sauce was very nice. Add $4 for chorizo.The bulgogi burger was juicy, the chips amazing! $18The coffees were great too! Wow, it has been such a long time since I have been blown away with such great food that is yet so simple and tasty, with prices that won't break your bank account. It is getting harder to find a place that is cozy, with great service and food - that combination is getting more rare. We are also both not easily impressed as we have travelled so much that we expect so much more for our money, wanting simply value for money - that's really not too unrealistic to ask for.Service to complement the great food and atmosphere. Staff attentive and friendly. Jacob saw that I had devoured the sambal, he attentively asked if he could get me more! Yes, please and thank you!!Upon leaving, we booked to come back for my birthday in 2 weeks' time with our adult children and their partners.Car park spaces across the road in a car park lot (near Coles) as well as street parking."
