"Have always held the view if the view is great then the place is expensive and food poor Not always true, there are exceptions but on this occasion my views proved correct. My wife and I decided on a nice quiet lunch at Pt Walter...because we have always liked the river foreshore, grass and trees. Walter's River Cafe sounded like a good idea. We were shown to a table by a pleasant young lady waitress. The table was unstable and the surrounds noisy due to it being school holidays and a large group of young mums nearby with screaming kids and crying babies. We subsequently moved inside where it was cooler and a little quieter. The two young lady waitstaff were very pleasant and helpful. no problems there. However, the menu was expensive so we just ordered a large entree of Chicken Bites to share plus coffee. The Chicken Bites turned out to be a plate of small chicken pieces in crispy batter served with a dob of coleslaw and a dipping dressing. The batter around the chicken was dry and stale and tasted like it had been kept and reheated. The chicken' meat inside was chewy, tasteless and dry. The coleslaw was equally tasteless and bland and the dressing dip for the chicken equally tasteless and left an unpleasant after taste in the mouth. Neither of us enjoyed our lunch. We thought the coffee might take away the taste but both our coffees were nothing special and also disappointing. The price of just for a few dried bits of old little chicken bits was an excessive rip off. Also, we agree with other reviews on the matter of cutlery on the table during Covid. All in all a poor dining experience at a lovely location. We won't be eating here again and will advise our friends."

"Regularly enjoy fish and chips from here. The staff are extremely polite and attentive. I like the choice of fish available. The salads are excellent. A choice of how the fish is to be cooked is an absolute bonus."
