"Had sea Bream which was grilled lovely. The vegetables were cooked but only had 2 little potatoes and a salad garnish. For 15 Euros I expected a bit more. The tables were sticky too. Flies are abundant and they do not use any deterrents."

"We visited this restaurant in August and have just to check. Waiting for food was about an hour and when it finally arrived, it was best. The "potatoes" that accompanied my food were cramps.... very strange!. When the restaurant card...machine was down then, we had a heated disagreement with the waiter in front of the entire square.... his attitude was insulting...... Very good. Would not recommend and will not return."

"We first visited this charming local looking restaurant on the 27/7/22; the place was packed and staff all very busy. Being the first in the queue, and finally being sat 20 minutes later, eventually our order was taken. We order 2 starters and 2 mains we were served 1 starter and 1 main. Received a few funny looks from the 'accountant ' lady sat in the open space office in the centre of the restaurant. Believing in 2nd chances, we visited again on the 31/7/22. First in the que again, and waiting 30 mins for our existence to have been acknowledged, my wife and I are objected to racial slurs in Portuguese from a female seated customer who assumes we are English. After finally being seated and another 40 minutes pass (those 40 minutes being prioritised for locals and larger families we remind the waiters that we exist and are seated in their restaurant. Our order is finally taken (1x starter and 2x mains roast chicken and cuttlefish with new potatoes . The mains finally arrive and are served an over cooked plate of chicken bones and baby squids with rice (the starter decided to leave town again I guess!? . By this time we realise that our custom and presence is clearly not wanted; refusing to tolerate this behaviour any further, we request the bill. Not surprisingly, they charge us for the starter we didn 't receive, which I raise with the waiter and who recalculates the correct bill. Upon handing them cash, they then attempt to short change us. A local restaurant for local people and those willing to spend in excess. Everyone else can go to hell your money isn 't good enough! ...... oh, and they had the audacity to charge us for olives, bread and butter which we hadn 't order (1 x euro for each little plastic pot bad comedy!"

"This is our fifth visit to Alvor but the first to Casa do Rio, the views are amazing especially at sunset. The staff were all very friendly and the food was delicious. The food was so good we visited again during our holiday. We wil definitely be back next year."

"It is beyond me where the positive and benevolent comments for this restaurant are coming from. We were there a few days ago with 4 people for dinner and had the following experiences: The menu suggests that there are no fresh food offerings (no daily specials, even just tamboril and chicken skewers), only using frozen goods). We then opted for 2 starters (fried mushrooms and polvosala) and two main courses, steak horta, sardines and fried lagarto (this is a thin strip of meat between the chops and the pork fillet). The champions were swimming in a plethora of oil and the polvo salad consisted of an undefined mass, in which there was nothing in terms of polvo either visually or in terms of taste. The two Horta steaks were sirlon steaks, with the usual fatty edges carefully cut away. The meat was swimming in an indefinable and completely tasteless flour sauce, garnished with potato chips from the bag. The absolute cheek, however, was the Lagarto that was served. Instead of the tender strips of meat, the chef simply fried the cut and tough edges of fat from the sirlon steaks and served them as a dish served with fries for 14.50 euros. This is not only bold and impudent, but actually constitutes fraud on the customer. The waitresses seemed demotivated although the restaurant was only sparsely occupied and forgot orders three times. For these dishes, 2 starters and 2 desserts (orange cake and 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream), as well as 1 liter of house wine, 2 espressos, a bottle of water and 4 Medronho, we then paid over 30 euros per person. Conclusion: We have lived in the Algarve for 25 years, but in our opinion this was the worst restaurant we have visited in that time."
