"Large coffee shop to visit the breakfast! the pancakes are delicious, like the avocado on toast. I would also recommend adding one of their freshly made smoothies to their breakfast. beautiful modern furnishings also."

"I went here whilst back on the island visiting my parents. First up, the food! This place had a very small menu, but the food they do do, they do really well. Every dish that we saw coming out looked superb. The 4 of us tried 3 different dishes (2 went for the burger as it looked truly epic). Each dish looked fantastic, and tasted jsut as good. I cant remember the last burger I had that was made of such a lump of pure meat, and tasted delicious as well. Next up, the venue, very cool looking place, new inside of old, and done tastfully. Almost couldn't believe I was on the island! The drink menu has some good bits too, the Rum Bear is particularly good with an unusual mix of drinks that really works. The only item that was a little disappointing, the service. Initially very good, but they had a band playing in the courtyard and kind of forgot that there was still a restaurant running. We regularly had to wait 20+ minutes for more drinks. Our bill would have been bigger had we been served more. If it was a £60 pub meal we really wouldn't have minded the wait, but our bill came to almost £200 even with the slow service. You expect a bit more service when you're paying those prices. My parents have been before during the week week had excellent service so maybe its only at the weekends they focus more on the event that the diners.... Still, great food, cool place, I wouldn't be put off by the above, just bear it in mind if you want to make a night of it."

"We have been a number of times when we are in Newport, this week was the first time since closedowns. What a wonderful place to return to lovely choice of food, very friendly members of staff and very comfortable place to eat. The reason for stopping was we were doing a treasure trail which brought us to Scarrots Lane so being there it would have been rude not to stop, a member of staff mention that other customers also doing the trail had stop there for a break Great minds she said she was interested in the trail, so we was pleased to assist in helping plus it meant us returning a few days later, again to enjoy your wonderful food. Total joy to visit The Retreat Cafe Tom Carol"
