"This is a great day trip to the Cava. The restaurant is very good. The chef is the former assistant to Benji Molina who is the most famous chef in the area. I do not like the restaurant of Benji Molina, and think that this chef must have far out performed his teacher. The food is wonderful and they use all local ingredients. You can even find fresh trout here. If you are at the Cava, please don't be afraid to try out their restaurant. It's wonderful."

"Visite este lugar acompañado de varios familiares... Mi recomendación es que si llevan niños o no son de buen comer, pidan un wafle para dos, ya que si son muy sabrosos pero terminan saturandote.. Sin duda regresaré ya que me pareció muy agradable el lugar.. Otra recomendación es que pidan café en lugar de una bebida azucarada ayudará a disfrutar más el sabor del waffle. Por cierto buen detalle que le sirvieron al cumpleañero."

"Based on some reviews, we opted for the restaurant for dinner. the welcome was friendly and personal and the recommendations helpful. The menu was rather too extensiv for our taste as we prefer a smallish menu with all the items prepared at the moment. The waiter was very positive on all the items including two different types of risotto which made us somewhat sceptical. As a chef, I know that you will not prepare a risotto plate for one person, so many of the plates have to be precooked which is not too helpful for the quality.We had one vegarian dish and one fish plate which were well prepared, the "amuse bouche" offered by the house was delicious.The wine list was disappointing as out of the 4 syrah wines, only one was available, despite the many well-known labels mentionned.Overall, a pleasant experience when you restrict yourself to the freshly prepared plates."

"Due to miscommunication with the other travelers in our group we missed our planned lunch stop just outside Rosarito and instead landed at Gary's La Fonda for lunch. We were seated on the lower patio and with the great weather we were treated to an amazing view of the Pacific. Unfortunately, after settling into my chair and soaking in the amazing view this visit fell apart. Now, I've been going to Baja for 48 years so I am well acquainted various eating establishments from the border to Ensenada and with service in Mexico. Don’t know if it was because it was mid-week but from the time drinks were ordered to settling the check, service was just unacceptable for the type of restaurant Gary’s is projecting. When your lunch menu includes filet mignon, your saying something about your establishment. Sadly, the service and the food just didn’t live up to expectations. Even for Mexican table service the waiters on shift were extremely slow taking orders and bringing drinks and food. I ordered the sea bass plate and my wife ordered the Chile Verde plate. We had to order off menu for our kids because they were craving carne asada tacos. After receiving my fish plate I told my wife I think they purchased frozen filets from Costco. Wasn’t very pleasing. The Chile Verde my wife ordered had extremely fatty pieces of pork and the green chile was a thick paste and lacking fresh chile flavor. It appeared as if the chile verde had been over cooked. Except for my nine-year old, who likes his tacos plain (meat/tortilla), the other kids gave the tacos a thumbs down. I’ll say the only positive of our lunch was the view of the Pacific. Given the number of great restaurants popping up along the Hwy 1, Gary’s La Fonda needs to really re-access their menu and table service."

"I've been coming to Boules for several years and it never fails to impress me! The owner, Javier, creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere and always offers new and unique dishes. Stop in early for a game of Boules (bocce) before your dinner, there is a court in the courtyard of the restaurant. I have never ordered off menu - we typically tell Javier how hungry we are (which is usually very hungry!) and he brings out a variety of dishes - from fresh sashimi to perfectly cooked steaks to amazing desserts! This is a hidden gem in Ensenada and away from the main hustle and bustle. It's always a treat!"
