"Following previous reviews we gave De Vasco a go during our short stay in Mantua. Upon arriving at the restaurant (about 9pm on a Friday evening) we were a little concerned that it was so quiet. There were only two other couples dining and the atmosphere was a bit flat. However, any concerns were banished when the food arrived. We had opted for the Canadian Fillet and as one of the priciest steaks on the menu our expectations were high. The steak arrived on a circular slab of heated Himalayan stone. Perched atop a slice of toast, it was possible to slice into the steak and if you preferred it cooked a little more, you could rest it on the stone which cooks it in milliseconds. This unique stye of service ensures the steak stays warm whilst you eat it without being in danger of overcooking it. I wish other steak houses followed this procedure as a very slow eater my food is invariably cold by the time I get towards the end! The side dishes were slightly less impressive roast courgette and aubergine was a little dry but the chips were good and the meat was so tasty we were happy to overlook the veg. The proprietor recommend wine for the meal which was delicious and affordable and we enjoyed ourselves so much we hardly noticed the restaurant was so quiet. I would certainly recommend to fellow beef lovers."

"As we tried to spontaneously get a table for two at the vice versa Osteria Fragoletta on a Sunday, which was not possible (our fault! , the Mangiadischi was recommended to us by the staff. The little place is also operated by the Fragoletta owners. We wanted to try the Risotto Pilota and the Tortelli Zucca, which luckily were also available here. Very simple dishes from a small menu, very limited drinks menu and overall very simple presentation. BUT: Both dishes very well done and very tasty! The traditional Risotto Pilota with mantuan sausage, which is twice cooked and therefore not really comparable to a ‚normal‘ risotto, was very tasty. The Tortelli Zucca just plain with sage salvia butter and a bit of parmesan cheese: Very thin, al dente pasta with a very good filling. Just right for a light lunch! Very friendly service!"

"This is a great find, just off the main drag. It's a small café/restaurant/bar with a personal service; friendly, helpful staff and good service. We asked to see the lunch menu and they were very flexible; we were told we could have a sandwich instead if we preferred. The food was delicious and there are vegetarian options. You order at the table and then can pay at the counter. Try the pumpkin tortellini in a sage butter sauce, which seems to be an autumn speciality for the region, delicious."
