"Visited The Eagle today for lunch with my mother and a friend. Food arrived and as it was placed in front of me, the first thing I noticed was a long black hair wrapped around a fry (we are all blonde). I notified the waitress who said nothing but promptly took the plate away to the kitchen. A few minutes later my plate was returned and I was informed my fries had been replaced (not the whole meal). My burger had now cooled down quite a bit but as we were short on time, I ate it. Having worked in hospitality, when our bill arrived, as a gesture, I had expected something (my drink, my meal, or a portion of it at least) to be taken off. I understand these things happen, even with precautions in place. To our surprise there was no reduction or even an apology. We made a mention of this and the server took the bill to speak to her colleague. They spoke amongst themselves and returned telling us that since they replaced my fries, they would not be offering anything further (clearly not even an apology). The server proceeded to say had I mentioned the hair at the end of my meal and the fries hadn’t been replaced, then the meal would have been taken off the bill. She remained quite defensive about having replaced it and that’s where it stands so we left it alone. Paid my £16 for a luke warm burger and won’t be back."

"There's a space between all of the High St. french restaurants (like Cafe Rouge, Villandry Kitchen and Chez Gerrard, all nearby) and the Michelin restaurants (like La Trompette around the corner)... and that space is occupied by Charlotte's Bistro.The food is exceptional, and without spending considerably more it simply cannot be bettered. The cocktails and drinks are pretty phenomenal too, and when I speak of informal and friendly service Charlotte's has become the benchmark by which I measure others.The ambience is wonderful. It's a small place and is full of an electric buzz and laughter that feels great. It's just relaxing, friendly and an enjoyable place to sit and while away the time or to take your partner for a meal.This place is Chiswick's secret. "What a lovely building with the most attentive of staff and gorgeous food. We both had the Crispy Duck Egg starter with hollandaise and asparagus, pea and broad beans with just a hint of mint....absolutely delicious. My husband had the steak and I had the Lamb Cannon, both meats cooked to perfection, meltingly tender and served with perfectly cooked veggies. A wonderful bottle of multipulciano...greedy goose choc mousse and a cheeseboard completed the experience....thank you Greedy Goose we will return."
