"The setting is lovely, next to the beautiful Exeter Cathedral. I got the wrong tea at first but this was corrected. We ordered a special toastie which hadn’t arrived after 20 minutes. After enquiring and being told it was on its way, one of the servers came to ask what we had ordered. Another fifteen minutes the chicken bacon and mozzarella ciabatta arrived with a few crisps and a very small salad with sweet corn. It was a sauce filler which looked like something you would put on a baked potato..It was slightly cold in places and did not taste nice- not worth the six pounds odd it cost- shame but we would not rush back."

"The dishes were tasty and imaginative and at a reasonable price. The service was polite but didn’t really add to our experience. Cafe Catalan is a tapas place which involves numerous dishes being brought to the table. We were sat at an absurdly small table for this and consequently only received two dishes at once. These needed to be finished before the next two were brought. We weren’t given a choice in the order of the dishes, so some of the combinations would not have been my choice. The restaurant is small and did feel quite cramped. We sat near the bar where the lighting was quite harsh. The ambient music was ‘Spanish’ if you imagine yourself at a beach bar in Torremolinos listening to recycled Euro pop. It was too loud and was by far the most annoying aspect of our evening. It made us laugh though, so not all bad. It didn’t really feel like an authentic Spanish experience. It may be right up someone else’s street though. I don’t think we’ll be rushing back."

"The food was delicious. The staff were mainly great although we did hear a comment about they didn’t book so can’t have a table, but we did book and Someone had been sat on our table. There was also a lady wandering about with a dog which I didn’t really think was appropriate around tables of people eating."

"Wicked steak sandwich. oh and the wing and the cake. yum! owners are beautiful. mr is dead and speaks clearly, but tears me up every time! mrs is simply lovely!"
