"We have eaten here often over the years and just love the food. George and Kristen are both wonderful chefs. The deserts are to die for, but if you really want a treat, The Christmas in July is definitely not to be missed."

"After dinner here we can understand that this restaurant is so busy. For dinner, from a very inexpensive menu, we enjoyed Royal Fish Basket-crumbed Calamari, crumble fish bites, mussels, natural oysters and shrimps, a generous serving, cooked for perfection, served on a large filled pastry shell. Also coral trout, encrusted with light tempura butter served with chips, salad and tartare sauce, light, very well prepared and satisfying. Desserts were freshly made profiterole, served with chocolate sauce and cream, with strawberries and mint, to die for, and a sticky date pudding with plenty of sauce (as we like), ice cream and also garnished with mint and strawberries, both desserts were generous and delightful. The new French cook has created a new menu that, combined with friendly and efficient service, creates a pleasant and unforgettable evening. Bookings are advisable."

"Truly a wonderful experience. You won't be disappointed. I booked a first class trip for my parents and I. They suggested we arrive at the station by 9:15, I think that's an hour before the train departs. But I'm very glad they did because it gave us time to grab coffee from the Rusty Rails Cafe, watch as the engine pulled into the station, and even have a quick chat with one of the engineers. There's a lot to experience before the journey even starts, so give yourself plenty of time and don't make the mistake of arriving just in time to board. The first class experience was wonderful. We had cheese platters on arrival and we had our choice of drink. Thankfully, the heritage experience didn't extend to the bar service, and there was EFTPOS available to purchase a couple more I don't want to spoil too much about the journey but it's a delightful day trip, educational, interesting, and very relaxing. The team at the Mary Valley Rattler do extraordinary work, and I can't recommend this experience enough."

"Ordered one coffee and two pasties (from hotbox). No warning of long wait time because of large dining group already seated. About 40 minutes to get coffee and despite reminding her of pasties, we had to go to the counter to again request these HOTBOX...items. When they arrived soon afterwards they were just like two slabs of very dry pastry. Waitresses were doing their best but clearly left without assistance or guidance. Very disappointing."
