"“Gasthaus Falkenberg” is pleasantly located at the edge of a forest. It is surrounded by a garden throughout which tables were dispersed. Due to the bright day and the warm September sun, we decided like most guests to sit outside. This was preferable because the...interior, though quite nicely furbished, was a bit somber due the smallness of the windows. At the permanent menu, this restaurant was designated as “Schloss Falkenberg”, i.e. Falkenberg castle, which may be formally correct but nonetheless a bit exaggerated. To emphasize this heritage, this menu, made up of only a single page, had the form of a medieval document roll. However, the content of the menu revealed that in contrast to all that “Gasthaus Falkenberg” actually is an ordinary plain restaurant. It focused on cold snacks as well as cakes and other desserts, whereas there were only about ten main courses at the menu. For the most part, they were classics of the Austrian cuisine, complemented by several kinds of vegetarian filled pasta, typical of the Carinthian cuisine. The main courses corresponded to what one may expect of a plain restaurant, but did not excel in any respect. Leathery edges of filled pasta indicated that it had apparently been reheated in a microwave oven rather than in hot water. This place seems to specialize primarily in desserts given that ours were much more convincing than the main courses. Portions were of sufficient sizes and prices appeared appropriate to us."
