"Yesterday we were in Lakeside, CA, the location of our first house in 1971. We were hungry and drove to Lakeside Cafe, which has been several different restaurants for years... but was still busy... so we thought we would try the current. We came after lunch Rush... and were kindly greeted... even a compliment on my cowboy hat: we wanted to sit down and there was no clean table on site. So we sat at a dirty... and waited... and waited... and waited... The place was almost empty and everyone seemed to avoid eye contact. That sounds paranoid... but if you read our other reviews... we love excellence. Finally, we have a busmaid and asked her to take away the jug that had been left on the table and wipe our table... It was pretty dirty. She apologizes not to come to us earlier and asked what we want to drink. Terri had a dietary coke... I went with the iced tea... both came back like snow cone filled with the glass absolutely... and we started drinking our drinks and waiting for order. We waited and waited... and waited... 15 minutes. It's been funny so far. We brought the bus girl back to a new one... this time with less ice. And we asked her to send our waitress. She apologized again... could not believe that “heide” had not yet taken over our order. While she got our beverage refill... Heide went by and said to one of the few remaining guests... “Oh... have I not given you your ticket yet?” Through his answer, we knew he had waited for his bill for a while. She went to the checkout... to write forever, his bill fell on his table... has instructed us that she was right with us... and went away. He went to the cash register and stood there 3 or 4 minutes before someone came to take his money. Until now the place was almost abandoned and we waited. Finally, another waitress comes by and took our order... Heide was busy. So we ordered. Eating was prompt... and shortly after eating we started past heath and asked us if everything was okay. The food was fantastic. Honestly. Terri had a turkey sandwich that was freshly thick house baked turkey and she said it was delicious. I had a Polish keelbasa with sauerkraut, which with a wonderfully fresh green dinner salad, great vegetables, French fries... a good meal for a bargain price. I'll check it out. We needed a refill of the drinks and waited and waited... and waited... we couldn't get any attention. We waved our arms... Finally I took both glasses and went to the station where the drink dispenser was.... waited... waited... So I went to the main counter closer to the kitchen. Eride ignored me, but another waitress said, "Oh... here let me help you with these..." Then she filled our snow cone... So I asked if I could have less ice. She gave me my drink with less ice and back to the table I left. The meal was a great meal and the quality and preparation was excellent. We're done and... jap... waited. Wait... wait... abandoned. We went to the cashier and heath saunters over... sets a ticket and tells us that our bill... then mentions that our bill was the second recently, which came exactly to a dollar amount. The guy behind us says "This is my bill"... Heide says, "Oh no wonder there were two of them... It is the same ticket”... Terri told her we had no ticket and we just wanted to pay our bill. So she ordered it... $27,12 and we paid. No tip. Actually, it's been years since we left no tip. But... that was a strange experience... incredibly good food... excellent price... and the worst service we've ever had. When I saw her on the Internet... I found out they had another restaurant in Escondido... so we have to try out one.... can't imagine that the service experience will be the same."
