"Les Cabannes is a pleasant little village at the foothills of Cordes sur Ciel, it's very popular Tourist village neighbour. Everyone goes to Cordes for the spectacular views, medieval housing and quaint little shops but Les Cabannes is a typical locals village which has...a weekly market in the square, where the men play their afternoon boules or petanque and only a few shops......one of which is a fabulous little Bar and restaurant owned operated (I think) by a young friendly couple who are eager to please. The fare is dead simple the same course meal for everyone with coffee for about Sometimes a salad, maybe a soup, with cheeses too, followed by beef, lamb, pork or chicken stew or casserole or roast or whatever has been good at the markets but always a big hearty meal which we can never finish. Truly, it's a typical French local cafe where they serve local, fresh, nutritious that morning cooked food which will satisfy the many local tradesmen (artisans), locals, tourists and villagers alike. I'm an Aussie who has lived in Cordes for years and love going for a walk to Les Cabannes and having a great meal with family friends at this venue always enjoyable and great for the budget conscious like us!!"

"For my third meal in this establishment, I was able to taste these sumptuous and hearty bites. a real sauce (not nicknamed lightened by the current hygienisto-diettic dictatorship) a champagne turbo with a real butter sauce. one of our previous visits consisted of tasting a beautiful bouillabaisse, one winter night! Finally a true traditional table to be enjoyed without moderation. I'm looking forward to testing the civet in the season, one of those dishes that categorize a chef!Jean-Paul v. 45 years old"

"Firstly, this is not a restaurant for vegetarians, or even those who don 't eat much red meat: the menu has only 2 non beef options: cheese salad, and trout (both excellent). Even the chips are cooked in duck fat. There are also limited options with regards...to vegetables or accompaniments chips and a small green salad come with everything. However, if you 're looking for unpretentious country cooking with good quality, fresh ingrédients, this does what it says on the tin. The philosophy is that all the ingrédients are sourced locally, so that the chef can tel you exactly where each came from. Even the beef cattle are pastured in local mountains, where the restaurant organises guided tours with a grill afterwards. We sat on the terrace, which on a Sunday was actually in the market! Ambience was very relaxed, and the service was friendly and excellent; the owner himself came over to wish us bon app . The price was very reasonable, and we particularly liked the two tier children 's/ados ' menu. For once, our 13 yr old had a good sized meal without having to pay full adult price. We also appreciated that even the children 's meals had the same quality of ingrédients as the adults ' version, and came not with Coke but a special diabolovache a very tasty cordial with lemonade. This modern take on what the Pyrenées has done so well traditionally is exactly what is needed in this region. I hope other establishments take note."
