"The St George Masonic club looks to have changed kitchen ownership with a very different menu than the last time l ate there. Fair to say it has been thinned down from the previous menu. I guess people who are overwhelmed will appreciate the reduced choices. The food was of a universal high standard. Entrees were hot and tasty and the 3 steaks we ate were all excellent, although my medium was barely medium, but it was very tasty all the same. I would say it is fairly normal club restaurant food. Safe but nothing too flash."

"First time to this absolute gem in Mortdale. With such a lot of competition in this suburb it's a tough gig but this place has it all. The menu is delightful and flexible to your tastes or dietary needs. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming and the staff, friendly, polite and obliging. Plenty of street parking. My brunch was excellent as was my partners. This will be my new fave to catch up with friends."

"Byblos has just opened in Mortdale, and this was evident in our dinner. We went within the first week of opening (last week of January) and there was a mixed reaction to our meal. We were welcomed at the door by John the owner, who is very personable and friendly, and genuinely wants people to enjoy themselves and to provide any feedback, constructive or otherwise. Most tables were occupied and it was a friendly atmosphere without feeling crowded at all. The seating is comfortable and John advised they were just waiting for the air-con man to fit the device upstairs and that would also be opened up for use. The building is designed specifically for the restaurant. John did not want to take over a failed one and wants to showcase a new and enjoyable location. Based right near the train station and with plenty of free parking out front they are well situated. The décor is great, and take notice of the steel wall mounts and decorations which are made for the store, with branding included! Upon seating we were given a god sized menu, but the young waiter was very new and did not know the menu, nor many of the Lebanese words. This may have been first week (day?) nerves but it didn’t instill us with a lot of confidence. He’ll get better I am sure. We were also waited on by two others throughout the evening and they were very good. The menu contains a range of Lebanese and Greek dishes. There is BYO and they are also waiting for a liquor licence to come through. Our table of three ordered the three dips with bread to start, a mousakka, a chicken shawarma and a Lebanese lamb dish I forget the name of. The bread was soft and fried pita and there was plenty of it; the dips were Baba Ghannouj, Labneh and Hommous. The labneh was ok but the other two were truly excellent. Easily the best hoummous I have had in Australia! The food arrived quickly and we were able to nibble as we talked. The moussaka arrived shortly afterwards, and for two reasons this was a problem. Firstly it arrived about 10-15 minutes before the other two dishes, and secondly it wasn’t heated properly. It was medium warm and was deemed to taste ok but nothing exceptional, possibly influenced by the heat. On a ‘side’ note the accompanying Greek salad was truly excellent. Very fresh and vibrant. The chicken shawarma was tasty and there was a large serving. However it was only a plate of chicken with no accompanying sauces or sides. It was tasty but far too much of one thing. I would recommend less serving size of chicken and add optional sides such as the salad and dips. I forget the name of the third dish, it was Lebanese lamb on rice. The spicing of the rice was delectable! There was cinnamon and some other flavours but not overpowering. ThiTRIP ADVISOR REMOVED REMAINDER OF REVIEW as it contained their email address. I do not have the full review saved to re-enter. Basically the cinnamon dish was really nicely spiced but the lamb was a bit bland. Overall the price was about $100 including $3pp for corkage. The rating is three stars but likely to improve."

"Smooth coffee, large selection of food. the breakfast with a group of 4 people was excellent. I gave it 4 stars, because the bruised rams were not entirely my taste, but if they loved thick cut speck they would love this. the menu is varied and about their usual avo on toast and eggs, coffee delicious."

"The Barra is Excellent! I don't live in the area and normally I won't eat in this type of places. But in the Barra everything is always fresh, fast, healthy, delicious and the price is Very good for the quality of the food!! Always that I am in the area the place for lunch is there. The dinning section is not good but it is understandable, they want to be more take away than dine in. I highly wish to have one of them in Surry hills"
