"My wife and I spend about 3 months in northumberland, visit a series of beauty spots, historical sites and equally important to look for great restaurants. our internet research and talks with locals led us to the old boat house in...Amble to lunch. the location of the restaurant (right on the coast) and near a series of interesting huts that houses a lot of objects was immediately attractive. this was given by entering into the restaurant and a very warm welcome by the staff and a table directly on the harbour. all very positiw, but this was just the prelude for some amazing food. we chose the common seafood plate – a huge wooden tablet with a whole lobster, perfectly cooked sea crumbs, lindisfarne oysters, roll mop herings, smoked makrele, hot cold smoked salmon, shetland mussels and delicious broken fish goujons roy pawns with delicious freshly baked freshly baked we would have stopped (should) after this amazing display of delicious food, but we ended the order of desserts – they were also delicious and glad that we did not leave. we can recommend a visit to the old boat house for a culinary extravaganza!"

"We both fancied Fish Chips after our drive up to Hexham for the week. We’d previously been to Hexham a couple of weeks before and said we’d definitely try Paxton’s. We arrived to find no queue, we ordered two Fish Chips with one curry sauce and one gravy to share between us both. It was ready within minutes, and we took it back to the caravan to have. It came in trays so it was kept warm and I must say I wasn’t disappointed!!! The portion size was perfect and the meal itself was really really delicious!!! We went for the extra hot curry sauce the certainly had a kick to it. We don’t have fish and chips often but I can honestly say it was so nice!! Definitely recommend Paxton’s!!"

"Nice enough establishment, and the staff were friendly too, but our issue was the food. Their was nothing to complain about. However, for the price, it was average at best. The pizza base was quite hard, and the cheese and other toppings on my Carne seemed to be made up of cheap ingredients."

"Brilliant little find on our day trip to Berwick. Popped in for lunch and was very impressed. Guy who served us was welcoming, jovial and kind. The food was delicious! Kids got half fish and chips, which was even devoured by our picky eater! Hubby had full fish and chips and cleared his plate. I got the fish platter and it was amazing! Half fish, calamari, scampi and fish cake (couldn't finish so had to share haha! . Great prices, nice atmosphere, clean and lovely sesting area. Highly recommend. (No photos as well all dug straight in!"
