"Going Japanese on a budget!

If you are craving for the common Japanese fare but don't have much moolah, Tok-yu is for you. This hole-in-the-wall restaurant within the Pioneer Center compound truly surprised me.
Food: I tasted their Seafood Ramen and it reaaaally hit the spot: it's got a little bit of everything: crab, fish, squid, clam. I've also had the ebi tempura, California maki, super mix salmon, and beef misono on my past visits -- they were good. Not WOW GOOD, just OKAY GOOD. They're not bad at all; I've definitely had better, but at those prices, I ain't complaining one bit! Prices are so low, that one time, there were 5 of us, and the bill was less than P1000.

Ambiance: an air-conditioned eatery. Don't expect much. Nothing fancy about it at all.

Service: On my first visit, I was there at 2:30PM. It was after the lunch hour, and way too early for the dinner rush. They were very attentive. My succeeding visits were a different story: it was always... read more"

"I've been a fan of Samurai's takoyaki since I was a kid. It's just a bit disappointing that over the years, the seafood stuffing of their Takoyaki has lessen. The taste is the same as I remember it, so that still works for me Food: Honestly, it's all that I order from Samurai. I usually consume 2 orders and eat it there and buy 2 or 3 more for take out. I'm just so addicted to it Service: It's always fast as the takoyakis are always ready Place: it's a small kiosk at the supermarket, so they don't have seats, but they have small tables where you can just stand and eat."

"There is nothing to eat in this restaurant. No crab, nothing! I hope the manager gets fired for such incompetence. Didn't even have the guts to explain what's happening."

"Tuan Tuan is one of my favorite restaurants in Megamall. It positions itself as the first Chinese brasserie in Manila.

I usually order their menu, which consists of Tom Yung Goong, Teriyaki Chicken, and a cup of hot coffee. The Tom Yung Goong was pleasant, if very mild. Chicken, had a crispy exterior and enough teriyaki sauce that the slight saltyness of the poultry wouldn't overwhelm. The chicken appeared to be grilled as it has some burn marks on the skin, which is normal with this type of method. Coffee had a good milk base that didn't come out too strong and complemented the food well.

To take away, it is important to me to order your snow rolls. It's like their competitors' pork buns, but I like Tuan Tuans better. It has a cookie-like appearance that gives it an added crunch, but there appears to be another layer of bread underneath that contrasts the crust with a chewy bread texture. Of course, let's not forget the sweetened pork filling that ... read more "

"The theme is pretty rustic but cozy. I like that the ceiling is high, it really makes a lot of breathing room.

If I remember correctly, I had the 6 hour (not sure about the time) pork. You will recognize this immediately based on the time. Haha. This comes with aligue rice and an iced tea. I think it's part of their lunch specials. The price is around Php320-350.

Now the food. It's oily and salty. But if you don't mind then go ahead. Haha."

"Japanese food has a special place in my heart. With all the recent ramen joints and Japanese restaurants popping up, I jumped at the chance to sample the food that helped shape some part of who I am; I found Rosanjin in SM Megamall a good place to rekindle the palate for that classic Japanese taste.

The big draw of Rosanjin is that it provides diners the opportunity to cook their food. In our case, we were provide slices of Australian Striploin, Wagyu, US Angus Short Ribs, and a Seafood Platter filled with salmon, prawns, scallops, and tofu in a broth, among other things.

The dishes are cooked on a portable burner heated by a combustible gel. Think of an incense oil burner but bigger. That should give an idea of what is used. This has the advantage of reducing smoke and other unpleasant odors that may bother other diners and themselves, especially if they have other plans.

The dishes themselves came out very well. The meat comes with a choice of three dips, but I don't need them. It is good enough to be taken on its own. Just cook it to a good medium rare and it comes out tender and juicy enough to be savored on its own.

The seafood needs a little more care since it comes in a broth, but I personally love the salmon with its hint of lemon. As always, anything with a hint of lemon is a plus on my end. Just a splash of the sour to remind that not all things in life are sweet.

But I digress.

Aside from grilling meat or stewing seafood, diners can indulge in classic Japanese dishes like crunchy shrimp tempura and sushi or maki. A unique take on sushi is the cake-like layered sushi, also known as oshi-zushi. We sampled two types: a tuna-flavored one called Hana and a salmon-flavored one called Taiyo. Each long plate comes with five pieces of oshi-zushi, and each one takes a couple of bites to consume. It is a filling meal on its own.

But if one wishes to indulge in more rice, they must look no further than the Beef or Seafood Chahan. The veritable mountain or rice comes bursting with spices, seasonings, and vegetables. Depending on the choice, it also comes with ground meat or chopped squid and fish. The seafood version is a must-try as it does not have a fishy, salty taste. Everything blends into a a savory, flavorful delight that can fill the stomachs of many a diner.
"

"My recommended resto for Filipino-Mexican food around Ortigas area. We ordered Buritto and Quesadillas. They give generous serving and the sauces are one of their highlights. The tables may get full easily even on rainy days. We enjoyed the food overall and will try other items in their menu. "Tucked away in one of the less busy streets of Kapitolyo, Smile Elephant could probably be your hole in the wall Thai Resto.

Ambiance-3/5
The design and furnitures of the resto is just a bit simple. With a few Thai ornaments here and there while the seats were very comfortable.

Food-4/5
Our group ordered the Roti, Pad Thai, Tom Yum, Green Curry Chicken and their Bangkok Fried Rice. All of the dishes were good with special mentions to their Roti and Green Curry Chicken. The Roti was served hot and tasted just like the authentic ones while the chicken curry's spice was just right

Value-3/5
Our bill came at around 1.2k for a group of 3 is a bit expensive for me. Though satisfied with the serving sizes, I just felt that I could have dined at another resto and spent less."
