"This is one of my all time favourite restaurants in the NY/NJ area or anywhere really. Just the best grilled squid with quinoa and not over-cooked collard greens. Super cold Super Bock. A dream come true every time. Occasionally superlative live music. Plenty of seats outside to take in the local sights. More than highly recommended."

"We have eaten at Via Brasil many times over the years. Unfortunately, the pandemic has adversely affected the overall experience. I gave them four stars since the food and caipirinhas are still delicious and I am hopeful that we went on an off night. Our main issue was the service. Our reservation was for five at 8 pm and we arrived promptly. We sat down and the waiter came over and advised that the kitchen was closing in a “few minutes” so we needed to order. We were celebrating a birthday so we had planned to have a few caipirinhas and appetizers to settle in With some additional prompting he responded that the kitchen closed at 8:30 pm. Everything then went very fast. The caesar salad did not come and when we followed up, the waiter said that we did not order it. The entire party heard the order, but what was the point of challenging your diner? It then came but looked a little slap dashed. The waiter did not advise of the closing of the bar so when our birthday guest wanted another round, the bar was closed. The main courses came as we were barely half way into the first course. Keep in mind we were in the restaurant barely an hour in total so we were speed dining with five people. The last point is the quantity of the side dishes. Black beans and rice are a staple in Brazilian cuisine and came with three of our orders. We were surprised to receive one small bowl for three people. Prior to the pandemic, we each received a small bowl. We had to pay for an additional small bowl and got push back from the waiter that one bowl was enough. Beans are not that expensive so why scrimp? Our birthday guest received a flan; but we were not offered a dessert menu. In the past we have had waiters that were excellent. It was a disappointing experience for a birthday dinner especially since we were introducing our friends to Brazilian dining. I wish the restaurant had not taken an 8 pm reservation if we were going to be so rushed."

"Food is excellent but they can't handle the business that they have. We made a reservation at 6:30 so as to eat before the performance. The food got to the table at 7:30, too late to eat any more than a few bites. Waitresses were attentive and working like crazy but they can't resolve the fundamental problem."
