"Dropped in this cafe located in a courtyard with a cute little monkey on the fountain. It is not fancy but serves nice sweet and savory tarts, good place to sit and relax and have a coffee,kids can run around. Just above the Marktplatz, away from the hustle and bustle, a nice place to sit and relax in the sun or shade. The salad was very good, and with the cheese tart together made a god lunch. The fruit tarts looked delicious."

"I know, we're in Switzerland and should be dining on fondue and raclette but sometimes you just need a burger and fries while on the road. Union Diner is a great choice in Basel. Their combo plate includes fries and a drink (beer, of course!.) They also have mini combo that should be more than enough for most ladies and even the gents if you don't want to be stuffed. Thick burger, quality beef, cooked the way I asked. Fries were clearly fresh not frozen. Not inexpensive by USA standards but comparable and a little less expensive than the other restaurants within the same immediate area. Casual atmosphere with some outdoor tables."

"When I choose a hotel, it is the bed, the shower and noise levels that are most important. In a restaurant it is food, service and atmosphere. This place scores tops on all three criteria. The food is really made at home like Italy but BETTER....We tried 5 dishes and each of them was excellent: nobody was weak. Five is a bit much, but the additional fitness time is worth the next day. Wine also very interesting and from the beaten track: follow the recommendations and you will be good. Service is super friendly, but not overlaid: a difficult balance. The atmosphere is cool but not unpleasant with good music at a reasonable level This is my new favorite place Basel: it is small with only 20 or so seats, so book forward perhaps a good idea."

"One of the few summer evenings we choose to eat among the linden trees on the terrace of the restaurant basilisk da pietro. the menu is rich and as the beiname reveals, italian. the portions are very generous and we are glad that many dishes can be ordered as half a portion. the foods are well prepared. at the insalata caprese is after our taste however somewhat too much oregano on the tomats. the espresso after eating is a revelation!A very attentive and friendly service round off the evening."
