"La Balsa is a local restaurant. Not locals would not think about eating there unless you are adventurous and go with someone who knows the place from experience. I went with people who have been in the area for 28 years and know where to get the best of Yucatan food, no matter how the place looks. La Balsa Speciality is Conch Ceviche and it is fantastic. It is my understanding that the notch can only be legally harvested from Sept to May, so if you are not in Progreso at this time it may not be avalable. A regional beer, sample Leon Negra, with the complementary tapas, and an order by Conch Ceviche is a lot for two for lunch. If you order two beers, you will receive double tapas. All this, the conch is about $5. Be brave."

"I have been to several of the beach restaurants/bar in Progresso. This is the best. Manual was our waiter and he was awesome. Cheap buckets of beers, free chips and sausa, great seafood tacos"

"We ended up stopping at this place to have some beer and get out of the rain. The service was excellent and our server was very friendly. The beer was relatively expensive for Mexico but i guess Progresso can hike up their prices because of the cruise ship visitors. which was fine. Whenever my boyfriend and i would order a round the server would bring us a complimentary bowl of tortilla chips and various delicious dips and condiments. I would recommend sitting in the restaurant as opposed to the beach if you are looking for good service. you can still sit out in the sun on the patio and people watch."

"We really enjoyed our lunch at La Cevicheria. There are big windows looking out at the beach across the street and the staff were quick to take our order and bring our food and drinks. We were pleased by the affordable price given the location and the quality of the food was great, too! Our waiter went the extra mile by helping to direct us onwards to a bank and grocery store."

"What a GREAT way to spend a Sunday late lunch. We got introduced to this little gem by our neighbors visiting from Canada. WHAT a great little find. Marcia, Sasi & Pamela are an excellent trio of ladies running the place, with another good male cook, who's name I didn't catch this time, but will be sure to, as we will be frequent visitors here. I liked it because it was off the beaten path of the touristy place, the Sol cerveza was UBER cold, Bloody Mary's were a 10 ++ and the food, well my pictures speak 1000 words.. The menu boasts great diversity, ranging from all the fresh, local seafood, and authentic Yucatec food, AND they have the gringo stuff. My friend had a DANG good looking cheeseburger, another had fish and chips (AWESOME portions) My hubby had the chicken tacos, also very good, and my relleno camarones con queso (fried shrimp with cheese sauce) was AWESOME.. not forgetting the ceviche mixto.. HUGE platter of freshly marinated seafood = just pure and simple delischioushness.. ! we will be back soon !"

"A hidden gem! Great seafood, in a unsuspecting location! Try the shrimp dish that has multiple kinds and spaghetti in the middle! Perfect for 2 or 3 to share! Love this place for real authentic Yucatecan seafood and more!"
