"My wife and I were just in Vienna. We saw this shop on a television cooking show years ago and I wanted to go there if we ever had the chance. It is not too easy to find unless you know it's at the upper end (end closest towards the cathedral) of the Naschmarkt. It is a shop and not a restaurant. Locals go to buy sliced meats, cheeses, and maybe a nice glass of wine. As all the reviews mention it is small; it is a stand up shop with one courtesy chair inside if needed or space allows!Everything we tasted, and I mean everything was delicious. First and foremost, however, was their roast beef. We have never tasted such tender, juicy roast beef. With shaved, raw horseradish, bit of mustard on the side, and nice dark bread it was fantastic. One local personality told us when we arrived it is "a black hole." What he meant was you enter for what you think is a short visit but the food, wine, and conversation make you leave hours later! You just lose track of time if you soak it all in.Thank you to Gerhard, Thomas, and Daniel for an absolutely beautiful visit. Sorry we missed Gerhard on visit number 2!"

"We ordered the lunch special of the day- onion cream soup, beef stroganoff, and dessert. The soup was hot and was not bad. The beef stroganoff was served cold and had a bad, spoiled flavor. We’ve had stroganoff all over the world and never encountered...such horrible flavors! We rejected the stroganoff after taking only one bite and asked for the bill. The older lady who served us was apparently the owner. She was upset at us for not eating our meals. She was completely unprofessional. In my rudimentary German, I told her the food was cold and was not good and asked for the bill. That lead to a verbal tirade in German. I had to ask for the bill four times and had no idea what the older lady was yelling. In the end, she brought us the bill and charged us full price for two meals. We paid. As we walked out, the older lady who appeared to be the owner walked toward us with two desserts and yelled something unintelligible at us. We simply said “danke” in reply and walked out. This was the worst food we encountered in recent decades and the most unprofessional treatment we have received at any restaurant. The complete lack of respect for us and yelling at us when we asked to pay and leave merits the lowest a "poor rating If the older lady who yelled at us had any sense at all, she would have apologized for serving us cold, spoiled stroganoff instead of making a scene. We rejected the food because we were concerned about getting sick from spoiled food. Our health is not worth a Euro lunch in a mom and pop place. "RUDE MANAGEMENT CHECK YOUR BILL CAREFULLY Sent back a basic side salad because it contained an item I had told the waitress I was intolerant to. That's fine. No big deal right? I did not expect manager to humiliate me loudly in front of all the other guests. Embarrassing and nasty. Salad can't have cost more than 50¢ to make, but he took the time to shame me publicly. He said he was angry at having to throw it away and that I DESERVED to be publicly humiliated. I wonder if he yells at all guest who don't finish their meals.It was a horrible experience. I was shaking as i paid the bill. So shaken that I didn't spot he had recouped the loss on the salad by over charging me for a beer. €5.50 in menu, €7 on my bill). In 6 years of regular visits to the city, it's the worst service I have experienced. The food is average. Standard schnitzel. They charge extra for mayo, ketchup, etc. Even Macdonald's doesn't do that anymore! Vienna is famous for bad service, and I really found it here."

"One of my best meal times in was undoubtedly in the sixth district to the red elephant. recommended by the time of the plate, close friends and my twin sister, we had to go and have a family dinner there. as it turned out that our six o'clock reservation was not necessary, as the place was practically empty, only to fill very quickly as the evening progressed. the restaurant is minimalist, small according to American standards, with clean, clear lines and a beautiful bar. it certainly had all the characteristics of a large French restaurant, including tables that are very close together that my father despised. Nevertheless he was very satisfied; and eating won him. I'll tell them why. in French style, the red elefant (the red elefant) offers a prix fixe menu with a whirlpool. You can order a complete three-course menu with suppe or appetizer, entree and desert or order any article a la carte for cheap trips. we all chose the three-course combo, and my millet-feuille with aubergine was light, crunchy and too-the for. my brother-in-law had the very traditional and absolutely excellent canard à l’orange, while my dad chose the desire of the day. for the gloomy I chose the traditional crème brûlée that certainly made it right. my mother had the cheese plate, which consisted of a fantastic, small selection of craft cheese. the other desert option was a fantastic homemade gelato. the three-course menus run between euro and euro. we accompanied our lush meal with two bottles of excellent red Austrian bigelt. service was efficient and uncomplicated, and the dining room was run by a friendly waiter as it is common in Europe. but he did good work to fill our glasses and our eating moves at a certain speed. the only thing missing from the place is white tablecloths. what can I say: I am a vacuum cleaner for white tablecloths: it adds only an additional ounce of raffinesse to everything. to the red elephant is a fantastic choice for a traditional French meal in meadow. they are also open for lunch."

"I am trying to remember:The rock music and ambiente was definitely cool.Food was aesthetically appealing but a little expensive for the quality offered, which was high, but lacking a certain something.For instance, the troufled celery tomato soup was just okay if you did not include the juicy deer ham. And Knödel with cheese filling, tomatoes and mushrooms tasted a little plain to be honest.6M aged Bregenzer cheese plate was excellent and so was the Schnitzel-variation we had. The fruity white wine we had was okay as well."
