"Way better than 'average '. Oil clean. Very good crisp chips. Some criticism of their potato cakes on this page. As a newish Altona resident have probably bought a feed at Civic about 20 times; never had a soggy or disappointing potato cake. Fish much better than an average fish and chip shop. Genuinely fresh calamari strips (non of the reconstituted rubbish that is so common in other places). Magnificent scallops and can get beautifully fresh oysters."

"I've been living in Altona for 3 years and have tried this place once every 6-8 months and each time it wasn't any good. It's often busy (which is why I've tried it several times) and I can't think why. Location maybe?Very average food and the coffee isn't great either particularly given the fact that there are a dozen better places within 100m of Stella.Cheap and not so cheerful."

"Great family run business by the beach, there can be a long wait in the summer months so might be best to call ahead. The seafood is fresh and the chips are fat, crunchy on the outside but soft in the middle. They take their time to deliver consistently. Oh and the burgers are delicious. They even sell buttered rolls fresh simple salad and a mussel chowder. They also offer plenty of seating outside including a small courtyard out the back."
