"The journey to Morgan River Grill on Dataw Island, South Carolina, is punctuated with scenes of natural beauty as you drive through a private island. The sight of herons in flight and the stately homes glowing in the sunset create an enchanting ambiance, even if this is somewhat dampened by the unexpected stop at a guard house. The requirement to scan your driver's license could feel intrusive and not particularly welcoming, adding a note of inconvenience to the start of your dining experience.Upon arrival at the Grill, the serene views of the marina make for a calming backdrop. Our dining experience began with an appetizer, the shrimp cocktail, which scores points for the freshness of its shrimp.The attention to detail at Morgan River Grill is reflected in their food presentation. The burger bun, for example, was branded in a unique way, adding a touch of creativity. However, the Islander Burger, despite its interesting presentation, fell short in terms of taste. The medley of sliced ham, fresh mozzarella, spiced pineapple chutney, sliced tomato, and house BBQ sauce didn't coalesce into a pleasing flavor profile. Indeed, the quality of the ingredients felt subpar, especially for its price point, and I found myself only able to take a few bites before deciding to leave the rest uneaten.On a more positive note, the fries and hush puppies both met with approval. Similarly, my wife's choice of Shrimp Grits was well received. As we moved to dessert, the creative touch continued with a delightful sailboat stencil in powdered sugar on the serving board for the chocolate cake. The other desserts, the key lime pie and crème brûlée, were also enjoyable.In sum, the experience at Morgan River Grill is a mixed one. It presents an intriguing contrast between the idyllic journey through a private island and the unexpected hurdles such as the guard house security check. Although some dishes were underwhelming, like the Islander Burger, the creativity in presentation and certain other food items did leave a positive impression."

"Sweet, with casual food. Had lunch here with spouse and two children. The café is in the back of the shop. We had a simple lunch (Gumbo, Sandwich and Mac cheese) followed by really delicious cakes for dessert. We enjoyed it!"

"Amazing food and service! I'll come back with the whole family! The rubber bear was some of the best I ever had, and I had rubber bears from Louisiana to the Carolinas. We also tried the Peach-Kbbler, who was also decadent and highly recommended. Many people around us have ordered the ribs, and that also looked wonderful. Ask for things not on the menu that will be given to you. Sometimes they can absorb other foods such as Mac-n cheese or greens. On the walls around the restaurant are books, photos and memories of the area. The restaurant also offers catering services. It's worth a stop!"
