"As long as the 2nd waitress had nothing to do with us... it was great. The food is so much better than before. So four stars. Our waitress was good, but this other waitress said she'd take us, our waitress, she didn't need to take the phone order. The second waitress wasn't okay to do that. Our waitress got our stuff, then the 2nd waitress came by, helped us, but just made me angry, said our waitress something. Then I told our waitress what was wrong with what the 2nd waitress did, and therefore I asked her to go, ask our waitress to take care of us. But to slip into another waiter table and give strange faces and be rude..not ok."

"We were the only customers in the restaurant so I'm not sure how this happened.... There was 6 of us. We ordered burgers, a melt with dip and chicken strips. Nothing fancy. We waited 45 minutes for our food. Our order of onion rings consisted of five, The chicken strips were burnt. The melt had no sauce and one of the burgers should have been a 5 alarm but came with just Swiss cheese. They offered to fix the burger so we let them. A different employee than our waiter informed us that our waiter was going to fix the burger himself. Another half hour goes by and the burger finally comes out. What we could eat of it seemed okay but after waiting so long we had to get it to go. They didn't offer us anything off the bill or a coupon or anything. Had the food tasted great I wouldn't complain but it was terrible. We won't be going back... Sorry"

"Had a short wait for a table but the Bartenders we're more then happy to accommodate us with all of our needs. Including offering to let us order off of the full menu at the bar. They have some of the best beer I have ever drank. And most definitely some of the best food I have ever eaten. The inside of the restaurant was really nice looking. Incorporating the old brewery tanks into the middle of the restaurant. Also allowing with a window, to see to see the tanks that are used daily. You can tell, like everywhere else, they were extremely short staffed. But, our food came out quickly, our waitress was more than extremely nice, and someone from the kitchen brought our food out to us their selves. Above and beyond is what I call that. Kudos to the staff. I understand how the star rating system works. But, this rating of 5 stars is just not good enough. A perfect 10 is what I give them. If I'm ever in Topeka Kansas again I am most definitely going to eat there."

"UPDATE Within hours of posting this review, the owner contacted me apologizing for the wait staff reaction to the issue. They said they immediately addressed the wait staff to better address similar issues in the future and also offered a gift certificate to help compensate. Was very satisfied with the owner 's prompt contact and handling of the issue. I told them because of all that they were doing to address this issue and any future issues that we would not give up on them and their business and would visit and try again. In the past, the food service were great. Lately, it seems like it has been going downhill. 3rd time in a row that mozzarella sticks were way undercooked. As I placed my order this 3rd attempt, I highlighted the issue with the mozzarella sticks and requested that they ensure they are cooked thoroughly. Alas, when the food arrived, I instantly tried one and (of course) they were not fully cooked. When the waitress finally came to check on us, I informed her of this and she just said surprisingly 'they 're not? '. No further dialogue. No attempt to correct it. Just walked away and avoided our table. Hence, why she received NO TIP. It 's unfortunate because I often tip 30% 60% depending on service and effort. Even left a nicely worded message on receipt on how to handle this type of sitation. Will NOT be going back again!"

"The Heartland Cafe was wonderful! The good was super, the atmosphere is nice. My biscuits were underdone, but that's not a huge huge deal. My only wish is that the servers were a tiny bit more attentive. We had Miss Hannah and she was lovely, truly."

"Until today (Sunday 3 27 22) they were not open. Fear, they're well closed. Just being open to Sat Sun would make it difficult to get inventory and motivation so I'm not surprised just a bit sad. Give them 5 stars for the food and the atmosphere while they were open."
