"Suburban chicken takeaway shops, notably in Western Sydney are excellent for value, if for nothing else. The Fields Chicken Shop has been recently renovated inside the Glenquarie Shopping Mall and it’s returned selling a range of cooked and fresh chicken options. Swung though after work via some grocery shopping the other day for a quick, easy and ultimate cheap feed. Ordered a Half chicken chips meal. Now normally a half chicken and chips meal anywhere normally sets you back at least ten bucks. More usually the closer to the City and Eastern Suburbs you get. Nope $6.50, through in a can of drink, $7.50. They had a minimum eftpos of $15.000 so I had to through in $7.50 of chicken wings (about 15… to balance it out. I went home with no just a feed but a feast. Luckily the missus’ was also hungry! The chicken and chips are solid without being anything overly spectacular. It’s normal rotisserie chicken that you can pick up at any Woolworths, just a heck of a lot cheaper. The chicken was a touch drier than I’d like, but it wasn’t terrible. There were juicy moist bits, but for the whole it’d probably been sitting in the warmer a little too long. The chips were good quality. Salted perfectly, they were fairly fresh and decently crunchy. The ones that weren’t crunchy were moist and soft. Solid chips. The wings I don’t think are fresh, they’re those Ingham style devil wings that are pre-crumbed and chucked in the deep fryer. Good without being spectacular, they make an excellent snack and you can see why they have a lot of them in the window and I’m sure many people and school children go for them after school. At a reasonable price they’re gobbled up quickly en mass. The Fields Chicken store might just have become the new go to for a quick and cheap feed. They’re nothing fancy, don’t have the draw or range of Chargrill Charlies or El Jannah, but they’re local, cheap and the service is friendly. A sure drawcard in any store."
