"I've been thinking about writing this review. I don't like to write bad reviews for small businesses, so I'll start with the good and end up with a good end. First, if I could give the server/host/gardener a separate rating, I would give him a 5!!! He housed, waited and served 10 tables plus manned a bar and had still a great setting. Now to the rest of our experience. I ordered half the rib and it looked fantastic!!! If it only tastes as good as it looked.... I don't have the 1.5 hours of diving on my $2.75 12oz Canada Dry Ginger ale (yes...just you can buy in a soda machine for 75 cents). But there was no taste at all....no hint at worting or rubbing. It was as if the rack oven smoked, possibly with liquid smoke and then on a grill and sweet potato frries (real really good, but I would have loved it better with a sprinkle of brown sugar). Maybe I have a bad one. There is always a bad rack or 2 in each batch. My wife ordered a salad (most places can 't mess up), but when she came out, it looked delicious, but lacked an important ingredient for the taste buds.... it was missing the DRESSING. Smh a good thing about that we wait there for 2 hours while for drinks, food and then review, we were conversational and new friends with several other tables that bravely wait and 't up after 30 minutes waiting for beverage orders are made. We have visited Jim Thorpe in the last 3 years and we have passed this facility every time and have always seen the long waiting period and thought it must be good! We have not experienced any of this kindness except the quiet and very busy host/server/barkeeper a man show. So would I visit again? Yeah, but only the sweet potatoes would order."

"PURE DISAPPOINTMENT. My husband and I visit Jim Thorpe a few times per year, and have had drinks Encore in the past (the bar is quaint and the bartender is super nice). We 've been wanting to try it for dinner, since the reviews seem good. We did hear from a few locals that the place is going down hill lately, but we wanted to disregard that, and give it a fair shot ourselves. It was LOUD. They were way understaffed. Our food took FOREVER even just to get the salad, almost an HOUR to be exact. The salad was tiny and tasted like pure vinegar. The crab cakes were bland, and the steak was chewy and low grade. My husband 's side dish of rice was comparable a hockey puck by the time it came out, as were his raw carrots (ugh). Very overpriced!! We paid the huge tab, left and ate at a local bar. If you want really good food in Jim Thorpe, got to MOYA!!! They never disappoint. Lesson learned. Maybe the local chatter is right. Sure seems like the owner is trying to cut corners with staff and quality of food. Very rarely do I write a negative review, but I want to save someone else the high tab and lousy meal."

"Had a great breakfast at the Mad Hatter! Excellent coffee, good service and a really wild and eclectic look. Always nice to see a playable acoustic guitar in the corner! Very good vibes from the place. All the food looked excellent. We sat next to a large party and the pancakes and sandwiches looked amazing! Next time we will go later to try the wine. Will return. And Cosgrove was a most excellent maitre d'hotel!"

"This place represents the best of American roadside dining. We stopped for dinner while on a road trip with our two young kids. The service was friendly and attentive (kudos to Hailey), the food was actually delicious much better than we were expecting for a roadside stop, and the prices were just right (especially these days when folks will charge $16 for a not so good burger). Loved the view of course, and appreciated that meals can be customized and that pretty much every meat dish can be substituted with an impossible burger. I recommend and would certainly go back."
