"I can remember eating ribs here as a child with my parents and my sister in the early 70's. Fast forward 45 years, I was back for a rack of ribs to see if my memory still held true after all those years. I have such fond memories of this place as a child. Every time the Blackhorn was mentioned in conversation, my thoughts would always flash back to those days gone by and those damn good ribs. So after debating where to eat with my Father, I suggested this place and he agreed to go. So after so many years, I was back here with my Father for dinner at the Blackhorn Dining Room. We arrived early so we had the place all to ourselves. I couldn't remember if the decor had changed much but Dad noticed a window that looked into kitchen was replaced with a mirror. The window had been in front of the grill so that you could see the ribs and other food cooking. The decor is dark. Dimly lit and elegantly decorated with its crown mouldings, wooden paneling and wrought iron light fixtures. There's a beautiful fully stocked bar against the wall. With a plush carpeted floor, the dining room has a warm home like feel to it. Our server was well seasoned. She had been around for a while. She was very friendly, very personable and was a delight to be around. Dad and I ordered a rack of back spare ribs apiece. The meal came with your choice of garden salad or soup, roasted potatoes or fries and the vegetable offering of the day. Dad selected the soup (chic pea) and the roast potatoes and I selected the salad and fries. The offering of vegetables was a mixture of grilled zucchini, turnip and carrots. Before the meal was delivered, a basket of bread/butter and a dish of dill pickles was placed on the table while we waited for our dinner to be served. First came the soup and the salad. Dad said his soup was hot and flavourful. He enjoyed it very much. My salad was satisfactory. Nothing to write home about though. It was cold and crispy. The dressing I selected (French) tasted like Kraft's which lowered it a notch. However, when the main course was brought to the table, the ribs looked great. The whole presentation was mouthwatering and I couldn't wait to try one of the ribs. When I did, my memory hadn't failed me. They were great. They weren't smoked as I prefer them to be but the sauce was delicious and the meat pulled off the bone just right. They even had a nice bark on them. Nothing much to say about the fries. They were just okay but my Father enjoyed his roasted potatoes. I should have ordered them instead of the fries. The vegetables were over the top. They were seasoned just right and were very flavourful. So all in all, after 45 years, the new owner of 20 plus years has continued to deliver the goods. It'll be another memory for me with my Father. The Blackhorn is now best known for its steaks but has a vast selection of reasonably priced items to choose from. I will definitely come back and will recommend it to all. This time I won't wait so long."
