"Popped in for dinner on our first night in Keswick as we were staying just down the road and this place had caught my eye straight away. It certainly lived up to expectations; the cow pie was massive and filled to the brim with lovely slow cooked beef. Made my way through most of it and took the last part home with me as I was kindly offered a takeaway box. Proper pub atmosphere in the bar area and a nice large, secluded dining section. Both our meals were great and pretty reasonably priced, good selection of cask ales on too. Staff on the night were all gents, particularly Stanley who served us throughout and was helpful and attentive the whole way through. The other lads were great too and all up for a chat, which is always what you want in a pub like this. My only slight issue would be that tips can only be left in cash; which while generally the preferred method of hospitality staff, is somewhat unusual these days to be the only option, and I can imagine means the hard working staff lose out on a decent wedge because of this. This is clearly a brewery/ownership issue though and having spent a number of years working in pubs myself, one I imagine could be easily rectified with some tweaking of the POS system if the bosses really wanted to- perhaps reviews like this will end up making a change there. "Very good quality small plates and very reasonably priced. We had chorizo, baked camembert and patatas bravad. Pizzas also of a good quality. Place was busy with a good atmosphere. Drink service could be a little quicker but overall a very enjoyable visit."

"We had one of the best meals on our 2 week tour of the country in Thirty Nine Restaurant. The food was just excellent wonderful flavours and well presented. I had fish for starter and main and both dishes were fresh and so tasty. Our waitress (the owner, her husband is the head chef) was warm and attentive. We only discovered on the day that this is a bring your own bottle restaurant, with a very reasonable corkage. The interior is modern and crisp but warm and it was spotless we saw the owner bleaching the toilets at least every hour. A great family restaurant in a central location. Highly recommended."

"Went to dees other night for the great reviews and was so dissapointed the staff were friendly and nice but the food was the disappointment we had tapas and every single one and no flavour just plain the only thing that had flavour was the prawn in a chilli and lime watery sauce which was just Frank's red hot sauce and the chilli chicken in sweet chilli sauce just looked like the frozen strips of chicken you get In asda with a sauce poured over, was so gutted as mexican is my fav"
