"Had dinner at its sibling last year and it was very impressive. Ordered take-away meals on last Friday. Although I placed my online order before I drove to pick it up, the order was still not completed and there was mistake too. After the chaotic issue had been settled, friendly staff kept on her apologies until I left the eatery. It was basically a take-away Thai eatery with just two tables only (I don't think it is wisely to dine-in because all the staff are rushing to prepare orders in the kitchen). However, the food was not bad but slightly greasy. Taste of the Tom Yum was good, so were the Red Duck Curry and Pork with Egg Plant. Pork Stick was slightly too dry but I like the dipping sauce. The only comment is why they make the coconut rice pink in colour. If it is white then it looks close to coconut, the temptation will be better...."

"This tiny cafe/restaurant serves authentic and good value Malaysian food. We shared a seafood laksa, fried noodles, assam fish with rice and the chicken wings and it was all delicious!! We'll be back to try some more dishes soon!!"

"This is our go to place for Malaysian cuisine on the south side now. If you feel like some Asian street food, this is the place to be.Their Penang Kuey Teow is one of the best Kuey Teow I've had. You can choose how spicy you want the dish to be, which is really important. I always order mine as medium hot, as I think this gives the noodles enough kick while not being overpoweringly hot to the point that you can't taste any other flavour. One of the best things I love about their kuey teow is the temperature they serve it in. Every time we eat there it's always really hot, as if you are eating off the wok. You can also tell from the fragrance and taste that the food was fried at a hot enough temperature. While everything is served hot, nothing ever tastes overcooked. Bean sprouts are always crispy. Noodles never stick together. They really know how to do their stir-frys! Another dish I also like to order (mostly in the evenings or on a cool day) is their Penang Har Mee, which is prawn noodle soup. The broth is full of flavour and together with the noodles is the ultimate comfort food in winter. If you love prawn, you will enjoy this.Their roti is also something I'd recommend if you like Malaysian curry. However, it may not be filling enough for some as the serving size is not that big. The curry sauce is delicious and if you have some leftover, they go really well with any leftover rice as a second meal lolCounter service. Alfresco dining (street food). The only inconvenience with this place is they only take cash (like a lot of Asian restaurants here). So make sure you have enough cash before you visit."

"After reading positive reviews from Joe K , Kan Do & Ronnielui2003 , I finally made my way to Mama Malaya. The family operated eatery specializes in traditional Malaysian cuisines. After reviewing their vast selection, we ordered Roti Canai (Indian bread with curry dipping sauce), Har Mee (prawn noodle soup) and Char Kueh Teow (stir fried flat rice noodle).

Roti Canai made a welcoming start to this meal. The Indian bread was flaky, oily and soft with an addictive buttery scent. Dipped into the rich and fragrant curry sauce, my palate was taken to Malaysia. A small let down was the slight overcooked roti that day which made it a bit dry. 3.5/5

The char kueh teow was up next with flat rice noodles, sliced Chinese sausage, bean sprouts, fish cake, banana prawns, calamari and eggs. First impression: my goodness the wok burn scent (in a good way guys)! The last time I had any stir fried noodle with that much “breath of the wok” was at a small eatery in Penang. The ingredients were well cooked with seafood retaining the moisture and the rice noodle stir fried to perfection. No doubt it’s the best kueh teow I have had in Brisbane. 4.5/5

Har Mee was the last dish to arrive, with fish balls, sliced boiled egg, banana prawn, chicken and Hokkien noodles all in a prawn based broth. First taste of the soup and I was blown away by the rich prawn, seafood and hints of porky flavours. It is by far the strongest prawn broth I have tasted in Australia. The chicken was tender soft and the seafood fresh and flavoursome. Hokkien noodles were cooked well with good amount of chewy vs soft mouthfeel. Bravo! 4.5/5

Service wise, for a take way shop is quite good. The owner was friendly and able to recommend dishes and special menu items of the day. 4/5

The establishment was previously a rundown Chinese takeaway shop which serves $5 lunch specials with a poor reputation. Due to the negative experiences in the past (its only 4min drive from home), I avoided the place for a number of years. After this fine meal, I can confidently recommend to friends, family and our Zomato community. I'd say, Joe K’s 45min drive was well worth the trip ;-)

Hint: Their lunch special wins on taste and value. Har Mee is currently a seasonal release dependent on ingredient availability."

"Finally got around to reviewing this gem - we have been coming back regularly since discovering it n 2012. In short - best satay in Brisbane. Cooked with no shortcuts, over charcoal for that real smokey flavour. Mee goreng is fantastic and the roti is the bomb! If you want authentic Malaysian/Singaporean food in Brisbane, better than any of the chains, you need to get here fast. Look out for the Malaysian deserts (kueh-mueh), they always sell out."

"After spending lots of time reading Indian restaurant reviews last Saturday night I made the ill-fated decision to choose Lemon Chillies for our much loved Saturday night Indian feast. I ordered the Kerala beef mappas, Nonya fried rice with chicken satay, garlic naan and garlic and cheese naan. I asked the person on the phone to make sure the rice dish was mild because it was to share between my two young children. This dish turned out to be full of chilli, which would have been ok because my husband and I would have eaten it, however the rice was gluggy and the flavour was as per the title of this review - average. My other problem with this rice dish was that it was full of very fatty pieces of chicken thigh meat. The best part about it was the satay chicken and fried egg. The beef dish was ok, however once again, average flavour and abosulutely full of black pepper. I guess this is because we asked for 'hot' and instead of 'chilli hot' we got 'black pepper' hot. The beef was also a little bit chewy - certainly not tender/melt in your mouth meat that I would expect from this type of dish. As for the bread, both types were chewy and lacking in flavour while the cheese and garlic naan was really thick like a pizza base. Not happy at all with this experience."
