"The general trend towards handcrafted brewed beer now leaves even the large breweries to throw on the market the products that have been specially tapped. And so the recollection of old bridalists has also created a craft beer scene in Germany, which, with unusual compositions and aromas, gives rise to more and more sensation. There is no exception to Bremen. Two years ago in the Hanseatic city there were three breweries of former 35 in 1748, which were still active. With Bremer Braumanufaktur, Grebhan’s Brauerei and the Union Brauerei, a few regional hop heroes have come to this. And even professional friends of the Mosel-Rieslings take it back and forth into the “Craft Bier Bar” on the Wall, in which you get between 40 different!!! I have to decide. In addition, more than 100 bottle beers are available for global thirst. Whoever this is too open to the world is probably going a little further north of the trendy Union brewery. The jewellery estate, which is now listed as a monumental property, sneaked in front of it for almost 50 years, before it was extensively renovated and reopened in December 2015. With modern technology, the historic brick building was raised to the “Freien Brau Union Bremen” and the independence was anchored in the name. Finally, one sees itself as an independent free craft brewery and this fits perfectly in the at least equally free Hanseatic city on the Weser. On the impressively restored brewery grounds there is a shop in which, in addition to the diverse bottle beer offer, 9 different varieties are also available! Caps, T-shirts and hoodies are waiting for their younger clientele with the brewery logo. A few steps higher in the spacious brewery are regularly transferred to the games of the SV Werder under the glass roof. In beautiful weather, this can even be opened. Gastronomically of interest is the connected brewery guesthouse, where it can be dine in a lively manner. “Don’t clap – knock!” seems to be the motto of the operators. The money put in has to come back somehow. No wonder that the beers of the Union brewery are found in many well-sorted Bremer supermarkets. But mass production is actually more unlike the “Craftbier idea”... Well, you should always get yourself the taste. Why don't you join a rustic dinner? Already during our last visit last winter, we had a meal in the brewery restaurant on our culinary agenda, but the short stay did not allow it at that time. On Wednesday evening at the beginning of August we reserved a table for five people in the extensive Bremer Bierpalast. A few tables were placed outside the high round arch windows, but they were completely occupied due to the warm weather. The entrance hall with the impressive slate table, which offers a successful overview of the various malts, hop species and beer varieties, leads to the rustically decorated, hall-like brewery guesthouse. First eye-catcher to the left: the imposing counter area with the shiny aluminium tanks in high position. From them, the handcrafted grafted down into the power plant. With the wooden furniture and earthy parquet flooring, you will find the flair of the future. If the dimension were somewhat smaller and the ceilings were not even so high, even cosiness would be set. At least after the first Pale Ale. The front wall passes through an indirectly illuminated wooden shelf with beer bottles of various provenance. On a retracted wall, the history of the Union Brewery can be traced with the help of framed images from ancient times. You can feel the efforts of the operators to install an unobstructed brewhouse atmosphere in the venerable hall. However, this is only possible in part. The gastro range is too voluminous. Whoever stands on beer tents will surely feel comfortable. On the other hand, a romantic craft beer dinner to two becomes more difficult. The young operators changed. It was not always clear to us who was assigned exactly to our table. But the service was largely smooth. Also, one stopped with the obligatory duzen, which is not always the case in such places of hipness. The cute young man with noise bar and baseball keppi – there it was again, the cliché – was enough for us the menus clamped on boards, as is in such trendy etablissements Usus. Those who wait here for anachronistic brewhouse kitchen with chicken, haxen and schnapps will be surprised by the offer. From the Emder Matjes-Stulle 5,90 Euro to the Bremer Backfisch in Biertig 12,50 Euro, various eating habits of culinary breeding ground are prepared. Scharfe Mini Hot Dogs are declared as “Five Chain” 8.90 Euro and the Wiener Schnitzel from the calf comes either in the original outfit with cranberries, frits or potato curk salad, 18,50 Euro or in the cheaper chicken breast version 11,90 Euro from the kitchen. In addition to classics of the progressive food globalization Burger, Papadams, Dumplings and Caesar Salad, the right “Union Craft Food” is also offered, such as the Pasta with beef fillet strips 14.50 Euro. For the mixed grill plate with chicken breast, Porter-Bratwurst, chop steak and beef fillet medallion 18,50 Euro, my hunger was not enough. I think he would have liked my long-lasting colleague from Monnem. It's nice that some dishes gave a suitable beer recommendation. As far as the food offer is rich, complemented by references to the 14-day Spare-Ribs Thursday and the upcoming “Bremer Oktoberfest”. In addition to beer cocktails, such as, for example, rhubarb juice choir with red beer, lemon and brown sugar, eight different varieties from the barrels and tanks come fresh through the potting plant. Additional beefs are offered by friendly breweries. In addition, a couple of “bottle friends” will complete the selected beer offer. And a few red and white wines – some of them even from the Palatinate – are available for the “Hopfenmuffel” lost here for an inexperienced reason. The prices for the brew are not shy. For the 5 euros you have to invest 0.4 liters for the “false lap”. The so-called “Bremer Brett” offers five varieties to try for 6.90 euros. A great way to complete the entry course in craft beer. Also good: the freshly tapped beefs are briefly explained in the map with regard to their brewing, colour and flavor. The nasty Hanseat is not to be understood here as an insult to the esteemed GG colleagues, but in version 2.0 represented my first “free Bremer beer” of the evening. In addition to me, the beer board was opened in Degustationlaune. To this end, I add the “Union Beef Burger” with 200 g of freshly grounded beef chop, beer onions but hello! , Cheddar, Tomate, Salat and Union Fritten as a matching “substance” of 13.50 euros. Okay, for the sake of completeness, I have to admit that I pimped it with Extra-Bacon 1.50 Euro. The beef burger went three times at our table. The minority had, on the other hand, more Swedish thoughts. With us in the Palatinate, the eternally long cooked pork is called quite unpretentiously “plucked anger”. It is no longer a culinary discovery that it can be very well placed between two Brioche buns. The “Pulled Pork Burger” came standard with Cole Slaw, Koriander, Pale-Ale-Mangochutney and Union frets for 12.50 euros. His fibrous flesh had a tasty smoker contact and was wonderfully smitten. As with my Classic-Burger, a bowl of delicately seasoned “Union-Fritten” stood here as a supplement next to the pig-Burger. The frits resembled slightly thicker potato chips from the shape, were nicely crispy outside and still slightly fluffy inside. They weren't drunk with fat, and they weren't even so difficult to digest. With the necessary upper or lower fermenter in the glass, it was possible to rinse all well. My burger didn't get to the Karlsruhe Deli-Buletten qualitatively, but it was quite neat. Upstairs pub food, which seemed to me a little too expensive with 15 euros. For the bid I lacked some creativity as I had it a few weeks before in Neustadt near Bruno between the Buns. Beer brews can be found in the Union, that is out of question. The Bremer Pale Ale, which I enjoyed after the copper-colored Hanseaten, tasted fucking delicious and also my companions mastered their Bremer beer sample very well. No stunning Aha experience in hop wort, but far better than the global industrial trucks of the Anheuser-Busch-Konzern from the Weserufer. It is clear that the Union's brown will also notice the departure from the garage beer thanks. Too mass-compatible and too smoothly ironed in taste appeared to me the crafted brew as if he could take it with the “hop and malt shots” of smaller breweries, such as Grebhan’s. But the Bremer brew landscape is enriched in everything. And if the hype has been distorted in a few years, the prices are also correct."

"We went here for a nightcap, was impressed by the brews. we haven't eaten so I can't comment on it. I have to say that the service was missing something, and that's not a reason to go there. when we arrived. it took a long time for someone to take our orders, what if the place was full or busy would be understandable, but it wasn't. second I asked a question about a beer that had posted. the waitress said she didn't know it and just stood there. After a few minutes she said she would check it. dude comes by and when I asked if the beer they had listed were on hahn (the sign said that on tap his answer was that a good question he would have to ask. he came 5 minutes later to inform us that the brews are currently not available (although the sign said now on hahn, but later in the week. certainly some room for improvement with service."
