"We were looking for a unique German souvenir as a present for a friend in Qatar. Baumkuchen or tree layered cake, which is traditionally German, came to mind. My father-in-law suggested us to go to one of the well-known konditorei in Marburg, Klingelhofer. The café was located in a quiet semi-residential part of Marburg, a several blocks away from the main city centre. Whilst we were there, we decided to have coffees and cakes after lunch. The cheesecake and cherry cake were on the sweeter side though. The ambience of the café was nice overlooking the street. The service was quite slow at times, however since we were in no rush, it was OK. The baumkuchen was not cheap but it was a unique looking cake, which reminded me of SE Asian layered cake or kek lapis. Knowing what went in, in producing a kek lapis, I am not surprised at the cost to produce a baumkuchen."
