"I somehow managed to book a day where the restaurant was closed. It was a big group for my partners birthday and the manager called to say she and the chef were coming in and were extremely sorry for the confusion. There was no reason for this level of kindness but they insisted and I’m SO glad they did! We had the sharing menu, and took all their recommendations. There was so much food, it came out just like it would in an old school trattoria, you sit for hours with a constant dribble of delicious food and very good wine. Service was amazing, ambience was amazing, food was amazing. Some neopolitan dishes I’d never tried but are very much going to become a staple! A gem of a find. Thank you Angoletto!!!"

"Have been visiting Sale Pepe for 40 years and have always given it 4 5 stars. Restaurant recent closed for refurbishment and this was our first return. The refurbishment looks good and has retained ‘old’ atmosphere but with a high quality update. Sale Pepe has never been cheap but given its location, excellent service and food, this has never been issue. Until now. The menu has been revamped with most Italian ‘favourites’ removed and replaced. The prices are eye watering, even by Knightsbridge standards and the service, whilst abundant was ineffective with long waits for drinks despite repeated requests. The food was ok but not a patch on previous standard despite almost doubling the cost. It just didn’t deliver an Italian (or any other) restaurant experience at any level. Translating the menu into Italian does not make the food authentic Italian. I want to be delighted at Sale Pepe, not disappointed and reluctant to revisit. Simply. There was no delight. The management needs to take a really good, hard look at itself and ask what does it want to be."

"We managed to get a last minute booking which surprised us, given that it was a Friday evening in the west end. When we arrived we received a warm welcome and given a nice table by the window. We ordered wine which was decanted at the table by our waitress Valentina. We chose mussels to start followed by pizza and sergios cod provencal along with a tomato and onion salad which they kindly prepared despite not being on the menu, (not always easy to achieve in many other restaurants) The mussels were tiny and many of the shells were empty, however the marinara sauce was tasty. The pizza, quattro formaggi was incredibly salty and doughy. The cod dish was bland and in our opinion the fish was undercooked. We were hungry so ate what we could. But left a considerable amount of food untouched. When the waitress came to clear she could obviously see that we had not enjoyed the food and asked how it was. She was also surprised that no-one had come to do a quality check. She said she would go and speak to the manager, which she did. After we paid and made to leave the manager then approached and offered us a limoncello which we declined. Sadly we were disappointed and despite there being many celebrity photographs adorning the walls, we found the experience underwhelming."

"A seriously adorable place decorated in warm tones, picturesque paintings of Italy and tiny fairy lights sprinkled throughout the restaurant. The waiters even communicate with each other in Italian! I went here for lunch with some friends after uni. It's worth it to go here just to try their pizza; the margherita pizza is the best I have ever had! The pizzas come in variations of lengths which you can choose from and toppings based on the length you go with. It's perfect for sharing! We chose the 3/4 meter length with Parma ham, mushroom and the final portion was margherita. Just the right amount of food for 4 people!"
