"Okay, so here I went on the Lake avenue in Pasadena absolutely jonesing for a burger when I remembered reading somewhere that one of the best burgers in the area of Los Angeles near to find... a place called Pie-N-Burger. So, down Lake to California, left and on the left side of the road... the object of my search. So I go in and... It's a strange little joint. It's all lunch table, with some uneasy looking tables in the back. The place looks like he hadn't been refurbished since he was opened in the early 60s because... it didn't. The menu is a board on the wall. There is a waiting time – even to sit on the counter. And it's loud. It's a scream from the chic LA restaurant scene as you could imagine, but hey, I'm here for a burger, not chic. I was first put a little down, especially through the waiting period, but I decided to hold it out and see how such a place could survive so long. Why, I wondered, would a place like this be so crowded? My name was finally called and I sat at the counter. A waitress threw a glass of ice water before me and asked to take my order. I ordered a cheeseburger and she suggested I add grilled onions. I asked the size, and she suggested I have a double. I have made both proposals, along with a dietary coke, an order of well toned frits and a small fresh fruit plate. This place is definitely an explosion from the past. You have a single soda fountain for carbonated water and make your choice of soda by mixing the appropriate syrup with carbonated water. Neat! A long time ago the food arrived. A bite in the burger and I appreciated how and why this place is still there. It's a really big old-fashioned burger! The meat was delicious, and the bungalow was soft and great! (and you can not go wrong with the grilled onions) The burger is served on a plate and packed in paper (in need... it is quiet big, every patty is 1/4 lb, and it is JUICY. The frits were also fantastic and were made perfectly crispy at the point (per my request). The meal was absolutely delicious. The service was great, at least after sitting. It would definitely be a great place to take a date you would like to put on the “casual/cool” test. I did not research the other half of their name (as in "pee" but observed several large homemade slices that were hidden in melting vanilla ice cream to other customers. They looked like to really enjoy it... BTW... just open up!"
