"I've eaten a-la-carte at the Himalaya a few times and went once for an anniversary dinner for a local environment group and have always been impressed by the food here. At out last dinner, we noticed that a Sunday evening buffet was available and thought...that we'd give it a go. We were a party of 5, and we went along with mixed expectations and big appetites. I have been to a few places previously where the usual menu is fine, but where their buffets tend to the cheaper and cheerier. Not so the Himalaya in Granville. You are given a choice of almost 20 dishes, with a good selection of vegie and omnivore food. The bain-maries are well supervised by a staff member who can explain what is what (there are no labels) and the food is topped up from the kitchen to meet demand. The dishes are of the same high quality as you'd get from their normal table service. As with all buffets, you have to decide the relative value of $28 for all you can eat vs what you would spend to fill you up from the menu. However if you are hungry, or want to try a large number of dishes you may not have had before, or, like us, we wanted a night out for good company and slow grazing, this option is without a doubt worth it. The restaurant itself is busy and bustling. The staff are efficient without being too attentive. the seats are comfy and the acoustics are good... not too loud and not too echoey. While it is busy, you are not rushed to finish to free up your table. Another good thing about this place is its proximity to Granville Train station. Why bother driving when you can have a nice night out AND be eco-friendly! I'll be back here, usually for a-la-carte, but with a crowd and an appetite, I would definitely do the buffet again."
