"Dalmatino is a wonderful fine dining restaurant in Port Melbourne. Its simple and tasteful decor allows diners to engage in conversations without shouting. Dalmatino is a Mediterranen restaurant, however this should not be confused with Italian food - Dalmatino serves Dalmatian food, from a coastal region of Croatia. With its many islands and beautiful coast, Dalmatian food focuses on fresh seafood and wholesome produce grown in a sunny seaside climate: tomatoes, beans, herbs, silver beat. capsicum, olives.Dalmatino celebrates seafood combined with fresh ingredients, gently balancing Mediterranean flavors. Go for mussels in chilly and tomato broth or for a delicious octopus salad for an entree and continue with stuffed capsicums or with a to die for fish stew on a bed of soft polenta. Paired with wonderful red wine from Dalmatian wine regions, you have a match made in heaven. For a desert we shared a simple serve of homemade biscuits: 'I'll just have half of the biscuit.' quickly became 'Oh, this is too good not to have the whole one!'The menu also offers slow cooked lamb or beef cheeks with prunes and apples - something a man in our company enjoyed the best. Plenty of choice for vegetarians and picky eaters as well. We really enjoyed a professionally trained services of a head waiter, an Italian who enjoyed his work and has performed it with pride and dedication. Dalmatino's Head Chef and owner Ino Kuvacic has just released his first cookbook DALMATIA - a glorious hallelujah to Mediterranean food with photos of produce and places. As he was in the restaurant at the time, we have asked him to sign a book for us which he did. Our friends and we left the restaurant with a heartwarming message in the book, happy and satisfied, like we are leaving a fantastic family dinner.
