"Trattoria Locanda dei Bressani is on the main square, Piazza Maggiore, in the picturesque upper town of Mondovi, south of Turin, beside the funicular for easy access from the modern lower part of town. It's got a small menu, with most appetizers and pastas an affordable 8 euro, and lots of good local wines in the 16 20 euro range. (Premium Barolo is more expensive, sorry). We were there on a Saturday night and it filled up fast, but we'd stopped by earlier and reserved a table. We started with a shared stuffed onion appetizer, followed by plin a ravioli like pasta in sage and butter sauce for my wife, and a rice dish with gorgonzola and sausage for me. They noted that the onion and rice dishes would each take about 15 minutes to prepare. Afterwards, we shared a dessert of pears poached in red wine (4 euro). We accompanied the meal with a bottle of local Arneis white wine (16 euro). Food, wine, and service we're all very good the total bill, with a bottle of water and cover was a reasonably modest 48 euro... We've paid more for less."
