"Fantastic small restaurant in Penzance guarantees you a nice meal. Service was good and all employees polite, friendly and welcoming. Food quality and presentation were very good from appetite for desert! That was reasonable. For 2 persons with a cravings, starter, main, desert, coffee and 2 cocktails (each) a very reasonable £70 per head. Yeah, we were stuffed and almost needed to roll out after that! Cocktails were delicious when a tiny bit inconsistent, depending on who made them (but always delicious). Would highly recommend the mackerel pate and monks coconut curry. Our only negative was that the steak was not exceptional and therefore compared to the other dishes it was our least favorite and the only part of the experience not aligned with the rest."

"Great service and massive portions of amazing food, go for the food and stay for the mead! UPDATE: Just been back at the end of March and once again was a great experience. We were waited on very quickly and the staff were friendly. Portions were very big and tasty of which we had the breaded mushrooms and prawn cocktail to start and then chicken in the rough and ribs as a main."

"We were a party of 4 who went to the Gurnard's Head for lunch. They had 2 menus to choose from, either the standard menu or the lunchtime menu which was 2 courses for £20 or 3 for a bit more (sorry I can't remember how much the 3 courses were). The food on both menus was hard to choose from as it all sounded delicious. I had the 2 courses for £20 and chose broccoli and Stilton soup which was the best I've had anywhere, and I had the beef with cauliflower gratin, bubble and squeak and Yorkshire pudding for my main. Everyone in the party thoroughly enjoyed all their food and the portion sizes were generous! We wanted puddings but were too full for any unfortunately. The service was friendly and staff were welcoming. We were not rushed with our food which was nice, as so often restaurants are quick to get your food out and ready for another cover, but this was much more relaxed dining. It was popular so I would recommend booking. We will be back for more delicious food."

"Food was of great quality and reasonably priced considering the high standard of the produce. Everything tasted so fresh and very well cooked. Staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful- even accommodating our dog, unusual for a pub/restaurant serving over and above the usual pub grub. Massive congratulations to all involved in the Tolcarne Inn."

"Contacted the restaurant whilst walking around Penzance looking for somewhere to eat. Although it was 8.15pm and the kitchen closes at 8.45pm, they told us they would happily serve us. We got there and were greeted by 2 lovely members of staff who were so helpful and friendly, and couldn’t do enough to help us. The food was divine and if you get the opportunity to have the crab cake, do! I would highly recommend Blacks of Chapel Street and will definitely visit next time I’m in Penzance Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £30–40"
