"We stopped by coincidence in this place at the end of the day and an empty stomach. The place is simple, the service is good, strange, friendly (you choose)... we had cheese, sardines, clams, soup, a salad and some drinks all of it well prepared and vary tasty, just as you wish it to be in a fishermen village. You want good local seafood, that is what you get, nothing more but that's already quite something..."

"My friend from the US was here recently on a holiday with her husband. We hadn’t met for 40 years and we had to see each other. I didn’t want to go to Tomar downtown. I discovered Alpendre through TripAdvisor and I must say this was a great find. The restaurant could easily be missed but just watch out for cars parked along the street. The restaurant is a popular dining place among the locals. The ambiance, the service and the owners (I assume) are just wonderful and you could see the pride of ownership. Our dishes were perfect … from the wine, the appetizers, the meats and fish and the desserts. The steak melted in our mouths. The sauce that went with it was lovely. I really am happy about this pick. My guests were amazed by the food. Definitely a fantastic restaurant that everyone has to try."

"The rudest restaurant I have ever visited. After 20 minutes of being ignored I was ready to walk, unfortunately my wife insisted ! Blank faces when we entered.... 5 minutes until anyone asked us if we had a booking, then they were distracted.... another 5 minutes......the place was not even busy at this time. Not a smile, not hello.... nothing. Eventually We were offered a table so started another wait. I had to ask an absolute average of 4 times for anything.... a menu, a drink, anything had to be requested multiple times i honestly believe if we had not asked we would have been just left. The hostess was a miserable individual, why she thinks the service industry is for her ??? She gives the impression that she hates every paying customer that walks in.... she is only trumped by the senile geriatric gentleman placed in an armchair in the walkway .... Why ? I have nothing but sympathy for the man, he seemed very confused lost.... incredible ! But the waiting staff were a new level of useless ..... It was an incredible evening that we will laugh about for many years. BUT .... the food when you get it is VERY GOOD ..... some of the best we ate on this trip it is very affordable.... especially as they do not expect any form of tip, as if they know the service is non existent. The place is always busy because the food is good cheap, but if you want some service with a smile just keep driving. I loved the food, I hated the restaurant !"
