"Salina is 1 of 7 Eolian (or Aeolian) Islands. It is known as the Green Island and for its production of capers, olives, figs, prickly pear and grapes as well as the green hillside of 2 inactive volcanoes. Some of Salina 's grapes are turned into a golden sweet dessert wine called Malvasia. We travelled from Lipari to Salina then took a bus to Malfa to taste some Malvasia. We asked locals about where to eat and were kindly directed to the Blue Moon, as it was described as one of the island best restaurants. We think they are un selling this hidden treasure. It was a little hard to find and seemed surrounded by residences. We thought we were lost, then there is was. We were the only diners, which was troubling, but we were at the end of their tourist season. Don 't be put off by the plastic chairs or modest décor the food is so wonderful, everything else pales into insignificance. Our persistence in trampling about in the hot sun to find the Blue Moon was rewarded, with one of simplest, but best meals either of us has ever eaten. I left a generous tip and my husband kissed the chef. She giggled. Yes, we do admit to being fine food and wine hunters at home (in Australia) and abroad. My husband had groper infused large ravioli pasta. I selected the swordfish, but was advised that the tuna was better than day, so I took the local advice and was rewarded with a mouth watering delicacy. A tuna steak can often be served dry and a bit bland, but not when it is prepared as well as this was just with capers, olive oil and lemon. And the desserts defy description, there was many to chose from in a little bakery. It is hard to decide when so many tempting treats were on offer. We chose Cannoli Siciliana and some little shortbread like pastries with pistachios and honey. Yes, we did drink some Malvasia with these fine desserts along with another less sweet white wine with our main courses. If you have the great fortune to visit the Aeolian Islands, then don 't forget Salina, Malfa and the Blue Moon. Yum! I feel hungry as I write this review. Enjoy!!!"
