"Had the Christmas Sausage Wellington and Parsnip soup. Tasty but dry. Veg was a bit sparse and soup a bit thin. Staff were cheery and friendly. Hopefully it will develop."

"What a lovely place . We were staying round the corner in a b b so a nice little walk for an evening meal and drinkipoo. Food was really nice we both had the chef's special pie with mash and cabbage absolutely fabulous good portion size and very tasty. Staff were really nice and attentive fab place all round."

"We had a big lunch for family and friends at the Volunteer in late July 2022. We stopped at the pub as a lunch stop on a big circular walk. Daniel and Diane did a big feast for our guests and kept the drinks flowing. A beautiful spot for lunch or just as a rest stop on a walk."

"The service in the restaurant was very good and friendly We had a good meal here, which we enjoyed, as part of our stay at the Sofitel. If you have got the meal as part of a package with your booking, make sure you get a voucher for the meal when you check in as we had to go back to reception to get ours. Drinks are expensive. Because of the nature of the hotel we expected to pay over the odds but got a bit of a shock when the bill came and 12.5% service charge had been added. This meant that a large Pinot Grigio cost over £12!"

"Called in at lunchtime, expecting normal pub grub. Presented with an Indian cuisine menu.Mighty glad we did. The pub now hosts The British Raj (Indian Restaurant) which was previously at Thr Surrey Hills venue. Mine host ...Mike was on hand to serve a selection of drinks(including some nice real ales) and take the food order, I suppose we have become accustomed to eating Indian food in the evenings, but every one of us agreed that the food at lunch-time was fresh, tasty and well presented, even the nan bread was the best we have tasted. Clear plates at the end was testament to this. Also catered for delivery to the surrounding area in the evenings. Lunchtime is a short window 12 noon until kitchen closes at 2.00 p.m. We will return. Situated on the southbound A24....Slow down as soon as you pass the Newdigate junction...turn left onto pubs own car park."
