"Unhelpful waitress didn’t tell us they were out of fish when we sat down, so when 2 of us tried to order it we were left disappointed. I then asked for a half portion of the ham egg chips and was told they can’t make it smaller. I queried this and they said it is ‘made up in portions.’ My grandma ordered it anyway and I had something from the small appetite menu. However, when hers came, it was 2x slices of ham, 2x eggs and a load of chips how was it not possible to half?? Management are also poor at customer service which explains why the staff are too. We had been avoiding here since my mum left a clearly branded designer scarf at her table a few months ago. When she phoned to ask if they had it, she was told they did and they’d keep it in the managers office until she collected. She went to collect the next day and it had mysteriously disappeared with management saying that staff go in and out all the time so they’re not sure who has stolen it! Our visit yesterday only confirmed that we won’t be back. Such a shame!"

"Parking is quite convenient, though on a sunny weekend we had arrived by 9am which was adequate to ensure availability of parking. By the time that we left at 11am, there wasn 't really much parking left. We had breakfast, which isn 't really what Rick Stein 's is about (that 's seafood), but it is a restaurant with a good deal of visual drama of dining in the restaurant area with the 'Harbour View '. Certainly, climbing up the stairs and passing the kitchen to be greeted with the view of the harbour is fantastic. There weren 't any real complaints about the food, which were all very good ingredients. The coffee was good and the brewed coffee offered complimentary refills. The bloody mary was really good. The children were catered for on the same menu and they seemed to scoff their food too ages ranged from four to thirteen! For me, the pick of the dishes was the crab omelette, a must have. Service... they were all very nice and professional but had a tendency to gaze downwards rather than scanning the room, a personal pet peeve. Overall, it 's certainly a lovely place to be on a sunny Sunday morning and I would visit for lunch next time."

"Absolutely shocking service Turned up at half past 9 to be refused to be served cookie dough the lady was mopping the floor and said I could have ice cream only as cookie dough took 10 mins to cook. doesn't really make sense to me...when the shop doesn't even shut until 10. wont be visiting again in a hurry"

"Had a great time here last summer, returned this year expecting the same but were met with an entirely different experience. My friends and I waited at the door for a good while and assumed, despite the sign, that we could just seat ourselves and it was only because of this that a staff member (Suzie) came up to us and, rather rudely, told us to go back to the entrance. After this experience Suzie continues to be unpleasant to my friends and I saying there was no current availability and to come back in half an hour. I left the restaurant to chat with my friends about the game plan for the day, we decided we’d wait the half an hour, I return back inside to book the table we’d just spoken about and was greeted by a much nicer waitress (who I didn’t get the name of sadly), and we spoke for a short while with her saying she had room for us rather quickly. Suzie quickly returned replacing the much nicer waitress asking what I wanted. I then attempted to book the promised table, Suzie then asked me what time and I said any time works, then all of a sudden Suzie announces, without looking at the screen, that there is no availability. Whilst waiting I then saw Suzie admit two ‘walk in’ groups despite there being no availability. My friends and I will not be returning and this is purely down to the way we were treated by Suzie, I sincerely hope one of her managers reads this."

"From the moment we arrived we knew this place was special. Well worth stepping away from the main quay area for. The building has been recently refurbished and it's lovely inside. The main bar has leather armchairs/sofas in a cosy atmosphere, and a huge fireplace....The manager talked to us about a bit of the history of the place and their journey to reopening .. we were well looked after. He agreed to make us a couple of cocktails despite the cocktail menu not officially starting until next week. We had a lovely half hour in there to start before thinking about food. We decided to move to downstairs to the Wine Merchants Cellar for a delicious cheese platter and some wine. The cellar has low vaulted ceilings and lots of exposed brickwork .. it's been very nicely done. Lola looked after us really well. That's the best service I've had for ages. She was happy to make that cocktail a bit more sweet, tell us what music was playing, joke with us and talk about the local area. She made sure she was aware when we needed something and was friendly as well as efficient. We were there for some hours and she was as brilliant throughout. We will definitely be back to this gem."
