"This famous haunt has been a personal favourite of ours for many years. Upon visiting this week we noticed several subtle aesthetic changes and of course a raft of new staff across the restaurant. Finding out the establishment had changed hands, we still wanted to give it a chance. Unfortunately we found the quality and delivery of meals has substantially dropped. In my opinion they are now serving packet sauces you can buy from a grocer instead of their signature home made accompaniments (big change in flavour), the salt and pepper tofu was harder, not silken soft and unfortunately the ocean trout only looked similar. We won't be rushing back to this very below average delivery of Vietnamese cuisine. In today's market, stand out out should only do !!"

"Just so you know, we werr torn between giving the colonial a 3.5 or a 4... and i will explain why. We were kindly invited to the colonial so our score/review will not include pricepoints as we did not pay for our meal.<br>

I am crazy about 2 cruisines, indian and middle eastern. I love the spices, i love the flavour, i cant stand the heat but i keep going back for more. I think im pretty confident in my judgement of indian food.<br>

The colonial is more of an indian fusion, indian with a modern take. I had a tamarind martini and it was a bomb, a very unique and beautiful taste with a kick. Chicken tandoori salad was beautiful (the chicken was so tender and flavoursome), i loved the paneer spring roll!! Such a great idea. Oh and not to forget the watermelon and feta salad... that was a very interesting and bizarre dish. Not a typical indian dish but quite refreshing.<br>

I unfortunately wasnt too keen on the dessert and i love desserts, i have had kulfi many times but its never wowed me. The kulfi at the colonial was probably the best ive tried so far, however im not sold. I did not enjoy the malai i think its a strange acquired texture.. ive never tried thr malai before so i dont have anything to compare it to.<br>

Overall i enjoyed the food, i felt that what we tried were the more fusion dishes with some traditional dishes. I love that the colonial is being experimental and modernising indian cruisines to something everyone can enjoy. But me being me, i love traditional indian food (which the colonial do serve as well) and i dont think i would to ve honest order indian fusion other than perhaps the martini and paneer spring roll. On the other hand, sam would definitely order the fusion dishes. Id give the colonial 4 for innovation, however just based on what i had that night, i enjoyed it, it was yummy, but it didnt quite hit home run for me<br>

"Small restaurant on busy Oxford St, just like eating in Saigon with street traffic noise. Small laminated tables ,but clean.Have eaten there twice and find meal tasty and value for money , Two entrees and a shared main around $ 22.00. Food has been tasty and freshly prepared, close to transport and St Vincents hospital. Had been going to the hospital so very handy and quick service."

"We didn't expect much as the restaurant was empty but once our dishes came out we were pleasantly surprised . I can highly recommend the crispy chicken and the braised duck. It was a relatively inexpensive evening."
