"We visited Le Goldert on a cold, rainy Tuesday night and were the only customers the entire time we were there. This would seem like a bad sign, except the small town was completely deserted as we walked a few blocks from our rented apartment...to the restaurant. As seems to be common in our French experience, it was at first a bit difficult to tell if the proprietors were happy to have our business on a slow night or inconvenienced when we walked in the door. Things warmed up though and we shared a pitcher of local wine and both ordered the recommendation' from the board: scallops (coquilles saint-jacques). This was one of the few seafood dishes we encountered on our trip and what a happy find! The scallops were large and seared, served in a ring surrounding a rice pilaf, all on top of a creamy tomato-y tarragon sauce. Absolutely wonderful! The only weak spot of our entire experience was completely a personal weakness, rather than one of the restaurant (and hence the 5-star rating). Le Goldert has won prizes for its foie gras and it was prominently featured across the menu (which is also fine just not my thing and thus we stayed away from it when ordering). Prior to our meal's arrival, the waitress brought us each a small plate of three different types of foie gras. Not wanting to be rude, we ate most of it (my hubs helped me with mine thank goodness). I had trouble getting past the concept but if I am truly honest, it was pretty good. I could see why they have won numerous awards for their foie gras (though I don't think I will be eating much of it in the future"

"Yes it was crowded and yes we were quite late but.....the staff gave the impresssion that they couldn't care less. This may have given me a worse impression of the food than was quite fair but the place generally had a very scrappy and lazy...air. My choucroute was OK but my partner's steak was tough and badly cooked. Wine was average (given that it's in a vineyard! . La Taverne Medievale is 10 minutes walk into the village and infinitely better. The hotel which is next door to Le Belle-Vue and managed by the same people is very good and suffers from none of the above issues."

"My wife had taken a Scampi Salad and me the menu Pinot Blanc Everything was good and even the other hosts near me, thought the same. They helped with some porc deliciously cooked and with some pasta typical of Savoie. Their desserts are totally coherant...with their food and must be tested. In all, good service, good gastronomy and good service One negative point, minor one, don't expect to eat as if you were in the medieval time, neither for the service nor for the food."
