"Lovely meal and lovely atmosphere. Had meal in the Thai part upstairs. Lovely staff and great food. Only small criticism would be the duck from the Peking duck. I would have liked this a bit warmer but nevertheless it was tasty."

"Before booking I always research places so The Yard simply did not live up to the reviews I had read. Perhaps a bad evening for them but very sad for us. The evening began badly when we chose a particular NZ Sauvignon Blanc the...waitress brought up and served an Italian Sauvignon when we noticed we asked if we could have the slightly more expensive NZ (happy to pay for it) however, we were told that they had no NZ wines. So we accepted the Italian Sauvignon. Not as fruity nor as dry but …… Starters: I chose the treacle cured salmon. My husband chose their baked eggs and mushroom on a bed of spinach. The eggs were rock hard. He had assumed it would be like an oeuf en cocotte. (It did seem a bit ironic that only a few minutes before the couple on the next table had rejected the same dish because of the cheese on top) was his dish the rejected dish reheated? if not then it was really unpleasant. My salmon was OK not exciting or to die for but edible. I had looked at the menu earlier in the day and had chosen lobster ravioli. Sadly they had run out of this when we arrived so I chose prawn and scallops risotto instead. This was delicious and both the scallops and prawns were cooked perfectly. My husband is a connoisseur of calves liver and was literally drooling at the prospect….this was the worst dish of the evening. It was supposed to be served with wilted chard, balsamic vinegar and sultanas. The chard was crunchy, the balsamic vinegar was more like malt vinegar and the sultanas had clearly made a bid for freedom! The liver was way too thick and overcooked. There was too much for a portion. We decided not to even consider the puddings and left feeling let down. The waitresses were charming why did we not tell them how disappointed we found most of the dishes? Because we are British and we wimped out! Sorry!"

"Very nice food but very slow service- waited around an hour for starters and then 40 minutes between each course. We expected it to be busy with the bank holiday but there were lots of empty tables, just slow service. This wasn’t ideal as we had to rush around the zoo after eating to finish it all in time!"

"We had a nice stay with carriages good food, although the chefs as crazy as a hatmaker no hes a good egg apologise the very friendly staff it also has room to stay. This is a caravan and camping verified website with electric hooks near chest and local attractions ."

"First visit in this quirky little caffe in hoole we had a warm and friendly reception from the cafe staff. I went for the speciality of the day consisting of poched egg (boiled to perfection) with smashed avocado and feta on thick toast, with a freky sausage on the side. the presentation was beautiful and the court was delicious. my tee was also served in a traditional china teetasse, the whole experience was fabulous. can't wait to come back soon."

"We visited this small plate restaurant when they stay in chester, as their menu is very allergy conscious. they have a section on their menu for vegetarian and vegan dishes, but it is easy to confuse as not all dishes are marked with a w or ve. best to be specific, we think we had some mayonnaise with the tempura mushrooms, although the dish is vegan marked, but we cannot be sure! we also had the chili court with rice (signed ve). the tomato sauce and aioli (marked ve). the tofu and kimchi noodles without the boiled egg to make it vegan. it was all done very nice and delivered quickly. they have dessert one, but we have not tried because the courts were more filled than we had expected. but it was good."
