"Service was pretty good and dishes did come out very fast. The Shanghai noodle was very good. But other dishes were average in smoked fish, Xiao long bao, salty soy milk and turnip cake. In opinion Shanghai Grill is better than this place."

"Used to eat here often when living in Edmonton about 5 years ago. Waitress remembered us, and the service was friendly with lots of thank you 's. They may have gotten a new cook though, because the food wasn 't as good as in the past, and there was less meat than in the former days. We were pleasantly surprised, however, with the streamed fish one taken from one of their aquariums. Very tasty, tho kind of pricey at $15 per pound. This one weighed at most 1 pound cooked, but they charged $30, maybe because she had estimated that the small fish in the tanks weigh about 2 pounds. Oh well we pay for our experiences. But on the positive side, their hot sour soup remains one of the best in Edmonton. And the sizzling pan of eggplant was quite memorable. Huge container of streamed rice was a bonus, enough for 7 of us eating. Cost was $130 before the tip, which was okay. They offered a Dinner for 4 or was it 5? But for the same price, we got to choose our favorite dishes. Will go back especially for the soup."

"We went to the new Old Strathcona location not the one listed on Tripadvisor on 103 St. My wife and I and two friends ate at the restaurant on Saturday evening. We ordered hot and sour soup which was ok but a lot of tofu and much better H&S in Edmonton. We then ordered green onion cakes as an appetizer. these were puffy and fine but only hot sauce was available, no vinegar soy sauce. For our main course we ordered Cashew chicken, seafood with mixed vegetables and ginger beef. The cashew chicken had so few cashews you could count them on one hand. The vegetables consisted of celery with a couple of thin slices of carrot. The seafood dish had a decent variety of seafood but the mixed vegetables consisted again of only celery. The ginger beef was ok but much better available at many Chinese restaurants in the area. It is August and there is a lot of local produce available so why only celery? Service was poor. We asked for water which never came. No one stopped by to see if we needed anything during our meal or if the tea needed refilling. There was only one other table occupied so the staff was not overworked. Overall a very disappointing dinner."

"We were staying nearby and needed something close and quick to eat. This restaurant did meet our needs in that way. We had the meat and veggie fried rice (we wish there had been more veg but it was otherwise okay) and the ginger beef. The ginger beef was served with sauce on the side, and without the sauce, the meat would have been much too dry. With the sauce, it was palatable, but nothing to write home about. Portions were generous. They offer only take-out service, which is a good thing, as there are several homeless services very nearby, making it a hard sell as a sit-down place to eat. And on top of all that, there's a huge construction project going on outside the restaurant, so it was a bit difficult to get to."
