"Really great restaurant! it is simply beautiful and cozy at the same time. the menu is quite short, but it is more than enough! all the dishes we have tried were amazing. they also serve good wine."

"The hotel Die Sonne Frankenberg has three options for eating; restaurant Philipp Soldan (which based on it's ratings is probably one of the best in the area), the Sonne Stuben and the Philippo bistro. We had originally wanted to eat in the restaurant Philipp Soldan but it only opens in the evenings and since we are currently reliant on public transport, it was not really feasible and we would have been quite restricted on time. So, we decided to try the Sonne Stuben at lunchtime. First impressions were good; classy interior, quiet atmosphere, plenty of space between the tables and generally a very pleasant place to spend a lunchtime. We had already perused the menu on the internet before arriving and the actual menu followed very closely to the internet list. Unfortunately one of my favourite dishes, Himmel Und Erde had just been removed from the menu but the were plenty of other traditional and speciality dishes to choose from. A complimentary bread selection was provided prior to the main course arriving.Suspecting that the main courses would be of fairly generous proportions, we refrained from having starters. My wife chose a veal dish - a substantial cut of meat served pink and complimented with sweet potato fries (standard potato fries were also available). I chose the braised local venison served with hazelnut spätzle. The venison was very tasty but slightly over-cooked for liking. I tried some of my wife's veal and that was cooked perfectly.'Open wines are served from the bottle and these are kept in a large ice bucket in the centre of the restaurant. I like this - you can out the bottles before ordering and you know exactly what you are being served.Waiting service was friendly but just a little in-attentive. There were long periods when we saw no staff at all.So, if the venison had been served a little rarer and service slightly more attentive ( I don't want staff hovering behind me)! I would have given this restaurant a well deserved 5 stars. We are both looking to trying it again and might book a night in the hotel so we can also try the Philipp Soldan."
