"Florida Avenue Grill has been around since 1944 and when you go there you will understand why. I went for lunch with a friend and the first thing we noticed were all the photos from notable patrons over the years. Next we were both thoroughly pleased with the sweet iced tea we enjoyed. For that alone I would return! Our waitress then brought us some fresh corn muffins to snack on while we waited for our food. This is not the place to go if you are trying to keep to a diet. There are so many wonderful items from which to choose on the menu. I opted for the beef short ribs with a side of mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. My friend had the fried chicken with sweet potatoes and collard greens. Both were very tasty, though I think my portion of beef ribs could have fed us both! The meet was so tender and covered in a brown sauce that worked well with some hot sauce on it. The potatoes had just the right amount of sweetness and the mac and cheese was a solid side – not the best I have had but certainly not the worst. The service was good. Most of the seating is either in booths or at the counter. Everything is served pretty quickly as well. Next time, I hope to try their pancakes or other breakfast platters. Or maybe I will go for some ribs or chicken. I may also have to leave room for dessert!"
