"Went in today ordered haddock and small chips was charged for standard chips. the girl serving was very pleasant. got my meal now haddock 5 50 . the portions now are a lot smaller. and still frozen fish which is no were near as good as fresh. the fish was well overcooked with a massive amount of very hard batter this place is now overpriced going downhill fast. wont be going back."

"Surprised at how good the Covid response was in this fish and chip shop, nearly all customers observing the regulations, makes the experience so much less stressful. Fish and chips and meat pudding nice. Would have been 5 stars except the wait at tea time is very long indeed. They seem to be permanently waiting for each fish to be cooked to order instead of having a bunch ready and the portions are surprisingly small ."

"A couple of months ago I posted a review about very rude staff which was true at that time, don't know if the people have changed or if it was just a different shift but because I live right behind a corner from this place, I ordered fish and chips after a night out and I have to say it was really good. The portion was massive, we had two regular portions and they were more like large (which is not a complaint of course) and the fish was really nice. I'm not a big fan of the batter, I usually leave the batter and only eat the fish (which was delicious) but I eventually ate the batter on its own because it was so nice and crispy I couldn't resist. Also the gentleman on the phone was very sweet and cannot complain about anyone being rude to me this time. And to the owner: I apologise for not calling the number, I haven't noticed your response until now."

"Average food and an average experience. Some items such as the curry and gammon are decent enough but others such as the steak and ale pie really aren't with very little steak and what is inside is tough, fatty and chewy. The cauliflower bites were like baby food inside with mushy cauliflower and the batter' was like rubber rather than being crisp. Also, a starter we ordered to come with our main courses was missed off and we had to go to the bar to ask for it. After our main courses we ordered some dessert for our kids, initially we tried ordering the apple crumble but that wasn't available, so we had the brownie, then the lemon sorbet but that wasn't available so this ended up as chocolate icecream, then the strawberry and clotted cream icecream but this also wasn't available so we had to settle for raspberry ripple. All this out of stock on a Friday lunchtime, so I can imagine there will be a lot of disappointment over the weekend. Added to which we had a 30 minute wait for the desserts to arrive bearing in mind we had ordered 2 icecreams and 2 pre made brownies and then they only arrived after we went to the bar and asked after another table who ordered theirs 10 minutes after ours received them 5 minutes before us. It was not overly busy during our visit and judging by the size of the Phantom Winger I would estimate it was barely a third full."
