"Went there on a Friday night with a group of friends. Our organizers were fortunate to have reserved the raised area at the back of the bar area for our gathering. The place was absolutely, positively rammed full of people. Very crowded, very noisy, so...hard to hear each other talking even when standing right by each other. The queues for the bar were consistently deep across the length of the bar for the length of the evening. Could be wrong, but it looked like they only had two bartenders trying to keep up. Now, this all may be because, as other reviews say, the place is amazing. In spite of the long wait for drinks, and having to fight thru the crowds to get to/from the bar, the appetizers we had (small burgers, chicken nuggets, chips, etc. were quite tasty. Got the e-mail asking for this review, likely as a result of having signed up for wifi in the bar (a bit cheeky, but that's how many places use their wifi for marketing, can't blame em). Perhaps the large crowds are a testament to the success of the place, so I'd like to try the place again for one of their burgers, or a proper meal, or a slightly less noisy night out with friends."

"The Bar and Kitchen is in the heart of the Royal Institute; I regularly use the cafe and the more formal restaurant. The wifi is excellent and the cafe offers a peaceful location to catchup on email before heading off to meetings nearby. Coming from...a scientific background I find the location particularly inspiring but don't feel intimidated its bright and airy and the coffee is good. The restaurant usually has a offer at lunch time that includes main and a glass of wine -excellent value for Mayfair. Beware that sometimes both are closed for private events or when the RI is hosting a large convention. The fish finger sandwich is my fav."

"During a family trip to the Monument, my children needed a call a nature. So we popped into the Hydrant and asked to use their bathroom- this was not a problem at all. It was at this time that we saw the...menu on the wall and said how nice the place was. So decided to go back for lunch, once we’d taken our photos around the attraction. Personally I thought the menu was small, but thinking about it now perfectly adequate for what we were looking for. We ordered two fish finger sandwiches and a club sandwich children) along with four soft drinks. The food was absolutely delicious and plenty to fill us all up. Considering the location we didn’t feel it was badly priced for what we had and would most definitely like to return."
